Mix It Up Day!

Our school will be participating in "National Mix It Up at Lunch Day". This will mark the third year we have celebrated this special event. Mix It Up at Lunch gives students a chance to sit with children they normally do not spend time with in an attempt to get to know each other better. It is a day that promotes the importance of making new friends and appreciating the differences in others.

Colored wrist bands will be given to all students tomorrow and will help them find their way to their special seats. Conversation starters will be provided. Mrs. Dalesandro coordinates this activity and always does an outstanding job. The students of Poland North Elementary School are fortunate to have her here! Thank you Mrs. Dalesandro.

National Philanthropy Day

This afternoon the students of Poland North Elementary School were honored as this year's Outstanding Young Philanthropists by the Association of Fundraising Professionals. Sixteen of our students were able to attend a luncheon with family members at Mr. Anthony's. Representing our staff were Mrs. Resch and Mrs. Wittenauer. Our students were introduced by WKBN's Rich Morgan and did an amazing job accepting the award on behalf of all our students. Each one had the opportunity to speak and ended up stealing the show! Mark Your Calendars!

November and December are always busy months. Please mark the following dates on your calendars:

November 17- American Red Cross Blood Drive 2:00-7:00; Call me if you would like to donate blood.

December 4- Holiday Shopping Night from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. here at Poland North Elementary School

December 16- Holiday Program (Grades 1-2) @ 6:00 p.m.

Information came home today about our ornament-making project for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Please encourage your children to participate.

Helicopter Visit!

Major Voelker and Captain Buckwalter of the USMC arrived to a sea of cheering students chanting, "USA-USA". There were goosebumps all around! Once our guests landed their Cobra Attack Helicopter, our students and staff were able to officially greet them. Five of our students presented our guests with over 230 letters of appreciation. Poland's Mayor Tim Sicafuse and other representatives from our community were on hand to witness this exciting event. Look for video and a lot of pictures of the visit to be posted on our site soon. There will be wonderful articles in the Vindicator and Town Crier, too. WKBN was on hand and should have coverage on tonight's news.

Family Technology Night!

I would like to thank all of the students and parents who made it to Family Technology Night! It seemed as though everyone had a good time. I want to thank National City Bank, Turning Technologies and Chick-fil-A for their parts in tonight's event. Great job!

I also want to give a special thank you to Mrs. Baldwin, Mrs. Hay, Ms. Vasko, Mrs. Kaschak, Miss Gura, Mrs. Wittenauer and Mrs. Dalesandro for taking the time to attend. They helped make the night a success! Poland North Elementary School has a very special staff and one that I am fortunate to be a part of. Amy Saculla and Jenny Fedor, two PSHS students, also helped out by volunteering their time. They represented themselves, their families and our high school exceptionally well. Our custodial staff needs to commended for their efforts, too. By 9:00 p.m., you would have never known that close to 200 people had made their way through the building.

A Busy Day!

Today was an extremely busy day! There was a lot going on at our school. The PTO Meeting went extremely well. From what I understand, the 1st graders were a HUGE hit! I am not surprised. I would like to thank Mrs. Metzger and Mrs. Resch for taking the time to participate. Close to 4o parents were able to attend. Thank you for being here. I was also told that many of the parents would like to have a "Principal's Storytime" at Barnes & Noble. Ask and you shall receive! Please mark Thursday, December 11th on your calendars. More information about the event will coming home soon.

I would like to congratulate two of our 3rd graders for receiving honors in the Juvenile Court Advisory Board's poster contest. We enjoyed a nice program and breakfast at the Embassy. Congratulations Brianna and Jacob!

If I became President of the United States.....

Over 25 students participated in last night's "virtual assignment". Students were asked to write a paragraph explaining what they would do if elected President of the United States. Those who participated will receive a coupon for a free Papa John's pizza.

Here are a few examples:

"I would keep our Country safe." - Jacob, grade 1

"I would dress up pretty and have a big desk" - Ally, grade 1

"I would let kids have 2 recesses at school." - Kyle, grade 2

"I would make my brother Vice-President." - Jacob, grade 3

"I would make all soldiers come home." Kelsey, grade 4

"I would lower the prices of Wii games!" - Maggie, grade 4
