Visitation Day!

I'd like to thank all of the parents that were able to make it to school today. Your children appreciated your time. Judging from the amount of cars in the parking lot and street, I'd say the turnout was fantastic.


Our BoxTops Contests has come to an end. I am pleased to announce that our PTO has earned close to $900.00! I'd like to thank our students, staff and parents for supporting our efforts. Mrs. Ferrick and Mrs. Kellgren deserve a pat on back for a job well done! The winning classroom and top seller will be announced tomorrow.


Please set aside some spare change for our school's Salvation Army collection. The red kettle will be here on December 2nd only. (I know the picture doesn't have a red kettle, but it's a pretty good fit. Trying to find just the right picture is one of the best parts of my day!)

Great Job!

I received a call today from a representative of the American Red Cross. She had wonderful news to share. The Red Cross had set a goal of collecting 25 pints of blood at our recent blood drive. In the end, they collected 29 pints and were thrilled to see 10 first time donors. Each pint saves the lives of three individuals. In all, Poland North Elementary School's students will be credited for saving 87 lives. I'd like to thank those who were willing to donate their time as well as their blood!

Tomorrow will mark the end of our BoxTops Collection Contest. Mrs. Kellgren and Mrs. Ferrick have done an amazing job. Thank you for your time and effort.

I hope to see as many parents as possible at tomorrow's "Visitation Day". Check the calendar for times.

Snow?

Wow! It was quite a surprise to wake up to so much snow. Michael and Katie tracked me down as soon as they woke up and asked the million dollar question in my house: "Do we have a snow day?" NOT YET!

Our 3rd grade classrooms have been hard at work creating Thanksgiving placemats for those less fortunate. The placemats and an assortment of canned goods will be sent to the Rescue Mission . Each 3rd grade student was asked to bring in one canned good by Friday, November 21st. However, Mrs. Baldwin and Mrs. Hay will be happy to accept canned goods from any of our students.

Take A Look!

Here is a sneak peek of one of the holiday plates. The rest should be finished up this week. We'll begin selling tickets for them once we return from Thanksgiving.

Please continue to encourage your children to make ornaments for the Make-A-Wish Foundation's holiday tree. Many beautiful ornaments have already been turned in.

The Weekend has Arrived!

It is hard to believe that Thanksgiving is right around the corner. Please keep in mind that school will be closed on Wednesday, November 26th. Classes will resume Monday, December 1st.

Over the weekend, please encourage your children to make ornaments for the Make-A-Wish Foundation's Holiday Tree. All ornaments will be picked up on Monday, December 1st. The ornaments need to be in the shape of a star. For more information about them, listen to our 4th grade student explain the details. He is in the upper right hand corner of this page.

Holiday Plates

'Tis the season to decorate some plates! For the past several years, our students have used their fingerprints to paint holiday-themed plates. Each class selects their own theme and ends up creating incredible works of art! Once again, I would like to thank Mrs. Phillips, Mrs. Schaefer and Mrs. Thompson for taking the time to assist with this project. Before long, the plates will be displayed in the front showcase. Raffle tickets will be sold during lunch. Winners will be announced on Thursday, December 18th. More information will be heading home soon.

Mix It Up Day!

Our school will be participating in "National Mix It Up at Lunch Day". This will mark the third year we have celebrated this special event. Mix It Up at Lunch gives students a chance to sit with children they normally do not spend time with in an attempt to get to know each other better. It is a day that promotes the importance of making new friends and appreciating the differences in others.

Colored wrist bands will be given to all students tomorrow and will help them find their way to their special seats. Conversation starters will be provided. Mrs. Dalesandro coordinates this activity and always does an outstanding job. The students of Poland North Elementary School are fortunate to have her here! Thank you Mrs. Dalesandro.
