Ready to Go!

The 2008-2009 school year is ready to begin! The first day of school is always an exciting one. Get plenty of rest this weekend and come to school with a great attitude!

Developing good work habits, establishing routines and making expectations clear are practices that the first few days of school are all about. The same can be done at home. Create a schedule for daily homework and reading. Set aside a certain time each night to talk about the school day or visit this site. Let your child know what your expectations are for this school year.

There will be a lot of very important papers coming home on Tuesday. Information about our PTO's fundraiser will be included. Please support it any way that you can. Our first "official" PTO meeting of the year will be held on Thursday, September 4th at 9:00 a.m. Please plan on attending. I hope to see you there!

Thank you,
Mr. Masucci

Gettin' Ready!

Today's Kindergarten and New Student Orientations went very well. It was very nice to meet so many students and parents. Thank you to those who already joined PTO. Your support is appreciated.

If you are heading out to the Canfield Fair, be sure to stop by the Education Building to see the displayed art work from our school.

Thank you,
Mr. Masucci

Vindicator Article

Today's Vindicator listed the 2007-2008 State Report Cards for all school districts in Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull Counties. The Poland Schools received an "Excellent" rating. In addition to the district-level information, the report card for each individual building within the tri-county area was listed.

Poland North Elementary is 1 of only 3 schools in Mahoning County to be designated "Excellent with Distinction". There are 69 schools in Mahoning County and approximately 168 in the tri-county area. Only 6 were designated "Excellent with Distinction" which is the State's highest mark. It recognizes schools that are "making significant progress even though they are already among the top tier of schools."

I am exceptionally proud of our students and staff. This is a wonderful accomplishment and one that should shared with everyone associated with our building. Congratulations!

Thank you,
Mr. Masucci

State Report Card

Poland North Elementary School has been designated "Excellent with Distinction" by the Ohio Department of Education. This is based on the results of the 2007-2008 3rd and 4th Grade Achievement Tests. Our students and staff are to be congratulated. The Excellent with Distinction designation is new to the 2007-2008 Local Report Card. It is earned when a school has been designated Excellent and also exceeds value-added goals for two consecutive years.

Thank you,
Mr. Masucci

Cantastic!

Thank you to everyone who saved and dropped off empty aluminum cans here at school over the summer. As many of you know, we will once again participate in the "Cans for Cash" contest. Poland North Elementary School was a national winner last year! Spread the word to your friends and families. All empty cans can be dropped off near the boiler room door at any time. More information will come home with your children soon.

Thank you,
Mr. Masucci

Gettin' Ready!

As we all prepare for the upcoming school year, please encourage your children to sharpen up their writing skills. Regardless of your children's age or grade, take a few moments and help them write short poems for the Vindicator's MiniPage. You can find the MiniPage in Saturday's paper on the back of the sports page. You'll find everything you need to know under the published poems. Send them in or have your children bring them to school in September. I send poems in each week from our school. This time of year provides quite a few good ideas:

1. Football
2. Fall
3. The Canfield Fair
4. School

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

Back to Work!

I'll be heading back to work next week. Wait a minute.......I had to check the calendar since I cannot believe this to be true! The school's office will reopen on Tuesday, August 11th.

Mr. Sofranec and his crew have done a wonderful job cleaning the building. All of the classrooms are ready to go. Over the summer, quite a few improvements have been made to the building. Security cameras have been added to our front entrance that will make the building safer for all students. In addition, security lighting will be added soon to the playground area. Poland North Elementary School will be ready to go!

I also have "big" news to share, but will have to keep it a secret for a little bit longer.

Thank you,
Mr. Masucci
