Family Technology Night!

I would like to thank all of the students and parents who made it to Family Technology Night! It seemed as though everyone had a good time. I want to thank National City Bank, Turning Technologies and Chick-fil-A for their parts in tonight's event. Great job!

I also want to give a special thank you to Mrs. Baldwin, Mrs. Hay, Ms. Vasko, Mrs. Kaschak, Miss Gura, Mrs. Wittenauer and Mrs. Dalesandro for taking the time to attend. They helped make the night a success! Poland North Elementary School has a very special staff and one that I am fortunate to be a part of. Amy Saculla and Jenny Fedor, two PSHS students, also helped out by volunteering their time. They represented themselves, their families and our high school exceptionally well. Our custodial staff needs to commended for their efforts, too. By 9:00 p.m., you would have never known that close to 200 people had made their way through the building.

A Busy Day!

Today was an extremely busy day! There was a lot going on at our school. The PTO Meeting went extremely well. From what I understand, the 1st graders were a HUGE hit! I am not surprised. I would like to thank Mrs. Metzger and Mrs. Resch for taking the time to participate. Close to 4o parents were able to attend. Thank you for being here. I was also told that many of the parents would like to have a "Principal's Storytime" at Barnes & Noble. Ask and you shall receive! Please mark Thursday, December 11th on your calendars. More information about the event will coming home soon.

I would like to congratulate two of our 3rd graders for receiving honors in the Juvenile Court Advisory Board's poster contest. We enjoyed a nice program and breakfast at the Embassy. Congratulations Brianna and Jacob!

If I became President of the United States.....

Over 25 students participated in last night's "virtual assignment". Students were asked to write a paragraph explaining what they would do if elected President of the United States. Those who participated will receive a coupon for a free Papa John's pizza.

Here are a few examples:

"I would keep our Country safe." - Jacob, grade 1

"I would dress up pretty and have a big desk" - Ally, grade 1

"I would let kids have 2 recesses at school." - Kyle, grade 2

"I would make my brother Vice-President." - Jacob, grade 3

"I would make all soldiers come home." Kelsey, grade 4

"I would lower the prices of Wii games!" - Maggie, grade 4

Election Day!

It's Election Day! Our students were excited about today's election. Mrs. Saculla's classroom was Poland North Elementary School's Voting Headquarters. Many of our students were able to use Room 105's "homemade" voting booth to cast their votes for the next President of the United States. Look for some pictures to be posted soon.

Our school's November 17th Blood Drive is quickly approaching. The American Red Cross is in desperate need of blood donors. To date, less than 10 individuals have returned their response cards indicating they will donate. Please consider giving blood. Each student who has a potential donor sign up will be entered in a drawing to receive a free ticket to see LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers take on the Toronto Raptors on December 9th. Five students will be selected and will be recognized before the game. They'll even have the opportunity to take shots on the Cav's main court!

November!

As each month rolls in, a new character trait is shared through Chick-fil-A's Core Essentials program. Ask your children about this month's word: gratitude! This morning I shared a story about a hippopotamus. See what they remember.

Fundraiser items can be picked up on Friday from 2:45 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. in the gym.

As many of you know, our students have been hard at work writing letters of appreciation to Marines stationed in Johnstown, PA. As usual, they are extremely humbled to receive the letters. To show their gratitude,......See how I tied that in?......several Marines will be flying a helicopter to our school this Friday at approximately 1:00 pm. At that time, they will pick up the letters and thank our students for their efforts. Afterwards, our students will have the opportunity to explore the helicopter. Keep your fingers crossed that the weather remains nice.

Happy Halloween!

Halloween is always an exciting day for our students. I'd like to thank all of our PTO volunteers for helping out in the classrooms today. The weather has cooperated and should make for a very enjoyable evening.

Well........Today was the day that the finalists for the einstruction video contest were selected. Unfortunately, Mrs. Saculla and her students did not make the list. However, they should remain exceptionally proud of themselves. This has been a wonderful learning experience and one that I hope they remember for a long time.

I would like to thank the following individuals who were part of the video's creative team: Chip Atkins of Accent Media, Cheryl and Gary Kekel of Mainsail Music and Audio, Jill Jenkins, Tom Dowlin and Lori Gawdyda. Thank you for your kindness, time and support. I also want to thank Denise Dick from the Youngstown Vindicator and our friends at WKBN and WYTV for supporting our efforts. Most importantly, I would like to thank and congratulate Mrs. Saculla and her students for a job well done. While it is always nice to win, it is gratifying to be able to say, "We may not have won, but tried our very best."

Attention!

Veterans Day will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 11th. Over the past 6 years, our students have written over 1,200 letters to Veterans living all around the world. Far too many have said that they had never been thanked before for their service. This year Poland North Elementary School's students are writing letters to Marines stationed in Johnstown, PA. On Friday, November 7th, several of the Marines will drop by to pick the letters up and thank our students for their kind act.

PTO Fundraiser merchandise will be delivered to school on Friday, November 7th. Information will be sent home soon regarding pick up times.
