Summer!

It is hard to believe that the end of another school year has arrived. We'll be open for business on Monday, June 9th in order to make up one of our calamity days from the winter months. However, I would like to take this opportunity to thank our students, staff, PTO and parents for a wonderful 2007-2008 school year. Because of you, I feel like I have the best job in the world!

Over the summer, I know I will relay information using my blog. From time to time, check our site. I'll be adding dates and information about some of next year's events to our school calendar.

Be sure to look for pictures from the Kindergarten class picnic, 3rd Grade's trip to Pittsburgh and Fun/Field Day! They will be loaded soon.

Fun/Field Day!

Although we had to dodge a few raindrops, today's "Olympic Games" were a HUGE success. Mrs. Klase, Mrs. O'Shaughnessy and Mr. Wesolowsky did an outstanding job planning this year's special day. There were smiles all around.....even in the dunking booth!

Thank you to all the parents who volunteered to help today. Without you, the day would not have been as enjoyable. Thank you to our amazing staff, too. Our students are lucky to have such devoted groups looking out for them!

4th Grade Recognition

Wow! This year's 4th Grade Recognition Program went exceptionally well. Our outgoing 4th graders were treated to the kind of evening they truly deserve. Thank you to Mrs. O'Kane for a job well done. She did a wonderful job planning the entire event and making sure everything was done in the best interest of our students! Her committee also volunteered a lot of their time. Poland North Elementary School cannot thank you enough!

Tomorrow is Fun/Field Day! Be sure your children wear appropriate shoes since they will be outside participating in a variety of "Olympic" events! Students have been asked to wear a specific color shirt to school. Each color represents both a classroom and country competing in tomorrow's events. Our afternoon kindergartners should arrive with a packed lunch shortly before 9:00 a.m. I'll be in the dunking booth tomorrow, so............bring it on!

It's the Weekend!

It's been another one of those days. If I don't write my daily message, I feel like the day got the better of me.

As many of you know, my mother's health is poor. I had to have her admitted to the hospital once again this week. She was discharged today, but unable to go home. Consequently, she is in a rehabilitation center. I hope not for long.

Is it June 9th yet?

Great News!

Poland North Elementary School is the 1st Place Per-Capita Winner in the 2007-2008 "Cash for Cans" contest! This one is a bit different than the "Cans for Cash" contest our building won several months ago.

Our building collected 1,648 pounds of aluminum! Great job! Mahoning County will issue a check in the amount of $1,145.82 to our school.

We will be participating in both contests again next year. I have a few ideas in the works. Until then, save your cans! As you accumulate them, feel free to drop them off here at school. Mr. Sofranec and his crew will be here throughout the summer months.

Ask your friends and relatives to do the same.

Extra...Extra.....Read All About It!

I hope you are enjoying the beautiful weather! Let's hope it sticks around. Tomato plants are now on sale. Feel free to stop in get your gardens in shape.

If you requested extra Pirate tickets, plan on stopping in to pick them up.

Please be sure that your child's lunch account does not have a negative balance. Poland's Food Service Director, Donna Cartwright, planned on contacting the parents of those who owe more than $3.00. Thank you for your cooperation.

Perspective!

Today started out a bit rough. I spent a good portion of my morning in a rather unpleasant meeting. When I returned to my office, I took a phone call that really put my day in perspective.

Taylor, our wish recipient, is currently recovering in Cleveland. Her father took time this afternoon to call and thank our students for what they have done for his little girl. Taylor is a fighter and cannot wait to visit DisneyWorld. In fact, his entire family is looking forward to a much-deserved vacation. He is also hoping that his family will be able to make it to our upcoming Pirate game.

My morning wasn't so bad after all.
