2/28/11

Our day was successful with all the changes to the building. We welcomed Mrs. Gesacion to 4th grade and Mrs. Hoover to our Kindergarten. We ended the day with a final celebration for Mr. Masucci. He will be missed terribly and we wish him well as he starts his new adventure at Union.

Recipes and Cookbook orders for our Relay for Life fundraiser has been extended until Friday, March 4th. Please continue to send in your favorite recipes!

Third time is a charm. Spring Portraits are re-scheduled for Friday, March 4th.

I want to thank the PTO, students, and staff for giving me such a warm welcome on my first day as Principal. It is a honor to be able to continue the traditions of North.

Farewell!

Although I love a good snow day, today is different. I wish I had this day to say good-bye. For the past seventeen years, I have come to work with a smile on my face. Some days have been better than others, but I have always been grateful to call this building home. I cannot thank those associated with Poland North Elementary School enough, for their kindness, support and friendship. I wish you all nothing but the best. Thank you Poland North Elementary School!
Sincerely,
Mr. Masucci

North's News!

My last week here is quickly coming to an end. I've packed up just about everything there is to pack up and my office looks rather empty. I shared some wonderful news with our students and staff this morning. I am proud to announce that Mrs. Tracy Kaschak will become Poland North Elementary School's new principal. She is very excited and sure to do a wonderful job. Taking over for her in the 4th grade will be another familiar face. I am as equally proud to announce that Mrs. Renee Gesacion will become Poland North's new 4th grade teacher. Like Mrs. Kaschak, she will do a great job. Mrs. Gesacion's replacement will be announced soon.

Have a wonderful day!

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

Check This Out!

As I was flipping through channels the other night, I came across "Inside Pirates Baseball" on FSN. If you have Armstrong Cable, that would be channel 33. I was pleased to see a good portion of the show focusing on the Winter Caravan's recent visit to our school. The same show is scheduled to be shown again this Friday at 12:30 p.m. You may want to check it out.

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

Another Short Day!

Enough with the snow! I think we have had our fill for the winter. The biggest news of the day is the fact that our Spring Pictures have been rescheduled for Friday, February 25th. I apologize for any inconvenience.

This year's Book Fair was a huge success. I'd like to thank all who participated. In all, our school received close to $1,500 in free books that will enhance both our library and classrooms.

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

4 Days!

Who doesn't look forward to a 4-day weekend? I hope you enjoy what looks to be a warm weekend forecast. I intend to fire up my pizza oven. Last summer I built this oven in our backyard and enjoyed every minute of it. My wife just had to have one. I really didn't want it, but I would do anything for her. (If you believe the last two sentences, I have really have you fooled.)

Classes will resume on Tuesday, February 22nd. Please keep in mind that Tuesday will also be Spring Picture Day.

Next week will be my last as Principal of Poland North Elementary School. That was much harder to type than you realize. I look forward to a nice week.

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

A Finished Book!

I was able to finish up the book I have been reading during morning announcements. Ask your children what they liked most about the book. I'd also suggest asking them about the setting, characters, problem and solution. It seems as though the book was a hit with most! I plan on reading one more book before I leave.

Don't forget to mark your calendars for Tuesday, February 22nd. Spring Pictures will be taken. That's the day we return to school from a 4-day weekend.

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

Happy Valentine's Day!

I have posted a few pictures from Friday's parties. Ice cream sundaes are always a hit with our students. This week will be yet another short one. Because of Parent-Teacher Conferences, there will be no school on Friday, February 18th. We'll also be off on Presidents' Day. Although we have this 4 day weekend loomong, my wife is still not convinced that we should go to DisneyWorld to get some sun. I'll keep trying.

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

Thank You PTO!

Today's Valentine's Day parties went very well. I'd like to thank the many PTO volunteers who were able to help with our ice cream sundaes. I know our students enjoyed them.

Next week will be a four day week. There will be no school of Friday, February 18th. In addition, there will be no school on Monday, February 21st. Spring Pictures will be taken on Tuesday, February 22nd. Please mark your calendars.

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

Brrrrrrr!......Part 2

I thought it was cold yesterday. I went to let our dog out this morning and she looked at me as if she wanted to say, "No thanks!" Please stay warm and bundled up. The good news is the temperatures are supposed to climb over the next few days. March is only 19 days way. Think Spring.

All of our students had the chance to do a little shopping at our annual Book Fair. I'd like to thank our PTO for organizing this year's event. You are appreciated.

Tomorrow will be an exciting day. Although Valentine's Day isn't until Monday, we'll be celebrating it tomorrow afternoon. Thanks to our PTO, students will be able to make their own ice cream sundaes, too.

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

Brrrrrrr!

Some of our students didn't want to get off of their warm buses this morning. The temperature will drop even lower today and tomorrow. Because the extreme cold, the Poland Schools will operate under a 2 hour delay tomorrow, February 10th.

Today's Book Fair got off to a great start. I'd like to thank Melinda Miller for her enthusiasm and time. In addition, Liz Klase and her committee were nice enough to brave the cold temperatures to make sure our students had help shopping for books. As always, their time and smiling faces were appreciated. 3rd and 4th graders will shop tomorrow.

Our 3rd and 4th graders enjoyed their field trip to the Covelli Center. I'm sure the Mahoning Valley Phantoms put on a great show.

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

Thank You PTO!

Today's PTO Meeting went very well. In addition to our regular business, I was given the opportunity to thank our past and current members for their support over the past nine years. I am extremely fortunate to have worked alongside Poland North Elementary School's PTA/PTO. Thank you to all who have given so much to the students of this building. We've had a great run!

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

Super Bowl!

It's Super Bowl Weekend! It was nice to see so many students wearing black and gold today. There were a lot of other colors, too. It was just a lot harder for me to see them. I shared quite a few interesting facts about the Super Bowl in the gym this morning. Ask your children what they remember.

This month's PTO Meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 8th at 11:00 a.m. in Room 102. The date of the meeting had to be changed due to to upcoming Book Fair. I apologize for any inconvenience, but we can all blame Mother Nature.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

Back to School!

Have we been in school 5 days in a row in 2011? It certainly has been a LONG winter. Please continue to encourage your children to read and participate in out "Reach for the Stars" Reading Program. In conjunction with this program, our PTO has rescheduled this month's book fair. A note is heading home today explaining the changes.

Our new character trait for the month is kindness. Ask your children about today's story that described the silverback gorilla. Despite a few growls and a lot of muscle, gorillas are some of the kindest animals on the planet.

Tomorrow is NFL Day! Let's see some black and gold!

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci
