A Special Visit!

Today was an exciting day. Members of the Pittsburgh Pirates stopped by the school as part of the 2011 Pirates Winter Caravan. Pitcher Jeff Karstens and 2nd baseman Neil Walker joined Pitching Coach Ray Searage and Announcer Tim Neverett for an hour long assembly. They were joined by the one and only Pirate Parrot! While here, our guests and several students participated in the Pirates' version of "Minute to Win It". Each contestant received an autographed game jersey. Two other students were given the responsibility of keeping their eyes on the Pirate Pirate. They both received hats and autographed baseballs. Be sure to watch the news tonight. Both WKBN and WFMJ covered the event. In addition, the Pirates will be posting pictures and video within a day or two. Click here to check it out.

Mr. Masucci

Volunteers Needed!

Volunteers are needed to serve on a school-levy committee. Please let me know if you are willing to help. Simply call or write me a note. I will share your name and number with Dr. Zorn who will then turn things over to the committee chair. Thanks in advance.

Raffle tickets continue to be sold for the 27" television set. A winning ticket will be drawn early Friday afternoon. Good luck!

Have a wonderful day.

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

Brrrrrrr!

It may be cold outside, but we are one day closer to spring! Before we know it, we'll be listening to the sounds of lawnmowers and baseball bats. I don't know about you, but I've had enough winter.

During today's morning announcements in the gym, I started reading a new book. Ask you children what they remember about Freddy. He seems like an interesting kid who really wants to buy something at the mall! See if you can find out what it is.

Have a wonderful day.

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

A New Week!

Our week has begun with yet another 2 hour delay. Cold just doesn't describe what it felt like this morning. Let's hope the rest of the week doesn't have any delays or cancellations. Today also marks the beginning of the 3rd grading period. I encouraged our students to begin this grading period on the right note. Please continue to check assignments book each night and encourage your children to stay organized. Report cards will be coming home on Friday.

What else shall we discuss? Perhaps I could spend just a few lines of today's blog on the Super Bowl bound Pittsburgh Steelers! Despite my words on Friday, I did not relax in my recliner or even enjoy pizza. I was too excited to sit and far too nervous to eat anything.

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

Another Short Day!

It's been a rather short week to say the least. I hope the 2 hour delay didn't catch too many people off guard. Today marks the end of the second grading period. Report cards will be sent home next Friday. It's hard to believe the school year is just about halfway over.

If you are planning on heading to the YSU Basketball games tomorrow, please drive safely and have a great time. I'm sure there will be quite a few activities to keep the kids busy.

Now.....let's chat for a few moments about the Pittsburgh Steelers. My Terrible Towel is ready to go! My recliner is primed and ready for action. I'll tip the pizza guy a few extra bucks before I nestle into my chair for three hours, too. I'm hoping to wear my Steeler tie on Monday!

Thanks,
Mr. Mike Tomlin

Family Night!

Family Night went very well. I'd like to thank those who helped make it a success. There is a wonderful article written in today's Vindicator. Simply click here to read it. There will be another article in an upcoming edition of the Town Crier, too.

It looks as if another winter storm is heading our way. Please be sure to watch your televisions and/or listen to the radio in the morning.

YSU Basketball tickets will be heading home with those who had requested them. Please check those backpacks tonight.

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

Family Night!

Tonight's Family Night for 3rd and 4th graders is still on! The weather certainly has made this event a bit challenging. On the other hand, it is January Mr. Masucci! Please plan on arriving between 5:30 p.m. and 5:45 p.m. We will begin shortly before 6:00 p.m.

With more snow heading our way in the next few days, please make sure you stay tuned in to local television and radio stations. I wouldn't be surprised if another day of school is ether cancelled or delayed this week.

Thanks,
Mr. Polamalu

Better Late Than Never!

The icy roads led to a 2 hour delay today. Fortunately, the temperatures warmed up enough that all of our students made it to school safe and sound. As the week rolls on, the temperatures are going to drop quite a bit. Please make sure your child is bundled up.

The 3rd and 4th Grade Family Night is still scheduled for tomorrow evening. If you have any questions about it, please let me know.

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

Long Weekend!

I spent quite a bit of time this morning sharing a story with our students about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. We spoke about how his determination impacted the entire world. I asked them to take a few minutes on Monday and think about Dr. King.

I received many requests for the free YSU Basketball tickets. Those who requested tickets should receive them by Tuesday or Wednesday of next week. Be sure to check those backpacks.

Have a great weekend! Go STEELERS!

Thanks.
Mr. Masucci

Back to School!

The 3rd and 4th grade Family Night has been rescheduled for Wednesday, January 19th. I was thrilled to learn two of the three presenters are still able to make it. The third presenter, Mr. Kent Tekulve, is unable to make the rescheduled date. Mr. Tekulve is the President of the Pittsburgh Pirates Alumni Association and a familiar name to Pirate fans. He was planning on sharing information about his incredible baseball career. However, he was going to spend more time talking to our students about determination and what it takes to succeed in every walk of life. Now 63 years old, Kent donates quite a bit of time to educating children. It would have been nice to have him. He is unable to attend because he will be in Florida participating in the 2011 Pirates Fantasy Baseball Camp. When we spoke yesterday, I suggested holding our event in Florida. While he thought that was a great idea, he did not feel as though the Pirate organization would pick up the tab.

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

Winter Weather!

I hope this winter weather doesn't dump too much snow on us. I am hopeful tomorrow's Family Night will go on as scheduled. If school is closed, I have no choice but to postpone our evening event. If our schools end up operating under a 2-hour delay, I will plan on hosting the event. Keep your fingers crossed!

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

The Upcoming Week!

Let's hope the winter storm moving through the southern states stays away from us. I am keeping my fingers crossed that Wednesday's 3rd and 4th Grade Family Night is not affected by snow and/or ice. If the weather remains on our side, everything should go off without a hitch. Those attending should plan on arriving between 5:30 p.m. and 5:45 p.m.

News went home today about a chance to win a new 27" television. Raffle tickets will be sold beginning tomorrow for $1.00 or 6 for $5.00. Good Luck!

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

The Weekend!

I hope everyone enjoys the weekend. If you are a football fan, enjoy the games. I'll be watching to see who my beloved Pittsburgh Steelers will be playing next weekend.

Beginning Wednesday, January 12th, raffle tickets will be sold for a chance to win a 27" Toshiba television. This brand new television needs a new home. More information will be coming home at the beginning of the week.

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

Let It Snow!

It looks like the snow is beginning to fall. Please be careful when driving to tonight's PTO Meeting. It will begin at 6:30 p.m. Plans will be shared about February's Book Fair.

I should be receiving our school's free YSU Basketball tickets within a few days. I will be sure to get them passed out to those who placed orders before the January 22nd game at the Beeghly Center. Thanks to YSU for their extreme generosity.

I have been reading a new chapter book in the gym during our morning announcements. Please ask your children what they know about the book's main character. Her name is Ramona and she is quite a leading lady!

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

Here's the Scoop!

I'm at work today. This should tell you that I am not holding the winning lottery ticket that would have had me on an airplane to my own private island. Looks like I'll have to wait for another opportunity.

I am pleased to see so many reservations coming back for our upcoming Family Night scheduled for Wednesday, January 12th. If you have any questions about it, please feel free to contact me.

Please plan on attending tomorrow evening's PTO Meeting. It will take place at 6:30 p.m. Our PTO is such an important and valued part of our school. The meeting should only last about an hour, so please try to attend.

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

Family Night!

Our plans for the 3rd and 4th grade Family Night are coming together nicely. Guests will travel to three different stations set up throughout the building. One of the stations will be led by Mr. Chaz Kellem. Chaz is a friend of mine who works for the Pittsburgh Pirates. He is an amazing individual who will surprise all who attend with his positive attitude on life. In addition, guests will experience an "Earth Dome". Check out this link to learn more. Get those invitations in!

All YSU Basketball ticket order are due Thursday.

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

Back to Work!

Our first day back to school went exceptionally well. It may have taken a bit longer than usual, but smiling faces filled our hallways. We'll all be back in the swing of things before you know it.

Information is heading home today with 3rd and 4th graders about our upcoming Family Night scheduled for Wednesday, January 12th. Please return invitations as soon as possible. I look forward to a great evening.

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci
