Happy Thanksgiving!

On behalf of our school, I'd like to wish our students, staff and families a Happy Thanksgiving. This is such a special time of year. Enjoy the next few days off.

I am exceptionally proud of our students for bringing in so many canned goods for the Rescue Mission of the Mahoning Valley. In all, over 200 cans were sent in to help those in need. Miss Ryder did an amazing job planning this activity and encouraging her students to participate. Our students and families are always willing to lend a helping hand.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

Gobble...Gobble!

It will certainly be a short week. Please do not forget that conferences will be held tomorrow evening. This is a very good time of year to check on your child's school supplies, too. Please check with your son or daughter to see if they need anything.

I'd like to thank our wonderful PTO in advance for providing our staff with dinner tomorrow night. We certainly appreciate it.

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

It's Friday!

It's Friday and the sun is shining. Let's hope the sunshine hangs around for the weekend. I could use at least one more nice day to remove the 73 million leaves in my front yard. Many of you probably feel the same.

On behalf of all our students and staff, I'd like to thank the Gulling and Carbon families for their generosity today. Both families were kind enough to donate bottles of water to the school. I know our students and staff appreciated the gesture.

It will be a short week coming up. We'll have picture retakes on Monday and a visit from the J.J. Brothers on Tuesday. Thank you PTO for the funds needed to have this exciting assembly.

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

Visitation Day!

Wow! It speaks volumes for our community, school and families to see so many parents and grandparents attend today's scheduled visits. I'd like to thank our teachers for their hard work. A day like this is anything but ordinary. They do an amazing job and deserve to be thanked.

Our holiday plates are "under construction". I've provided a sneak peek of Mrs. Hay's plate. Thanks to Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Anness for their help yesterday. Before long, all classrooms will their plates on display in the front showcase. I'll also post pictures on our site. As usual, our PTO will sell raffle tickets for them.

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

Check This Out!

I found these pictures on the Internet this morning. I thought they were rather interesting. The pictures were taken from the International Space Station. The first picture shows Astronaut Tracy Caldwell Dyson inside the International Space Station. The second picture shows the lights of Cairo and Alexandria, Egypt on the Mediterranean. In the third, you can see the lights of Italy and the island of Sicily. The last picture shows two astronauts on a space walk outside the space station. Now that's a field trip!

Don't forget. Tomorrow is Parent Visitation! I hope to see you at school.

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

Drip..Drip!

Today turned out to be a rainy day. We cannot complain given the fact that the weather has been so nice. I'm still grateful last week's helicopter visit worked out so well. If you haven't checked out the movie, click on the link to the left.

Plans are being finalized for the upcoming "limo lunch". Eight students were randomly selected to participate in this unique experience. More information will be shared soon. If your fundraiser merchandise was damaged in any way or your order was packed incorrectly, please contact Mrs. Kellgren at 330-707-1614.

Don't forget about Visitation Day on Thursday.

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

Check Out the Movie!

Be sure to take a look at the short movie of our recent helicopter visit. The link is to the left of this message. Here is a little assignment for those interested.

Within the movie, Captain Speakman makes a comment about a possible return to our school. When does Captain Speakman and the Marines want to return?
Students, not parents, are to write the answer on a piece of paper and include a picture of a helicopter. All papers must have a name and room number on them. Rewards will be given to those who place their papers in the yellow box outside my office tomorrow morning. Good luck!

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

Report Cards!

Report Cards were sent home today. It's hard to believe the school year is going by so quickly. Please review your child's grade with him or her, sign the report card and return it to school as soon as possible. Your cooperation is appreciated.

Today's Bake Sale went exceptionally well. I'd like to thank Mrs. Resch and our staff for all of their hard work. As expected, the goodies were wiped out! I'd like to thank Mrs. Klase, Mrs. Wilkinson and Mrs. Sienkiewicz for their help with the sale, too.

A short movie about Wednesday's helicopter visit will be on the site soon. Be sure to check it out.

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

Take a Look!

Thank you to everyone who was able to make it out to this morning's PTO meeting. It is deeply appreciated. I am extremely fortunate to work with so many devoted parents and grandparents. More importantly, our students are fortunate to have such a supportive group in their corner.

With the holidays coming up, it is a good time to share information from GFS Marketplace about a program that has the potential to generate "free money" for the PTO and provide shoppers with great coupons. Information will go home on Monday about a program that rewards our PTO whenever you choose to shop at GFS. Please be sure to take a look. In order for the program to work, you must be signed up as a member. You can do so by completing the postcard that will be sent home on Monday. (The postage has already been paid.) You could also sign up at the store itself. GFS is located on South Avenue across the street from the Youngstown Sports Grill. Click here for more information about GFS's Fun Funds Program.

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

Helicopter Visit!

Today's visit from Lt. Col. Murray and Captain Speakman was absolutely wonderful. I think our students really enjoyed the experience and hope they remember it for many years to come. Captain Speakman thanked our students, staff and families for the letters of appreciation. He said he and his fellow Marines are looking forward to reading them and enjoy the visits to our school as much as we do. We also managed to wish the USMC a "Happy 235th Birthday"!

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

Thank You!

Our school's blood drive was very successful. I'd like to thank those who were willing and able to donate. In all, 23 units of blood were collected. That translates to to 69 lives saved. The American Red Cross is very thankful.

Tomorrow is red, white and blue day. I received confirmation today that the helicopters will arrive at 13:00. (That's military time for you rookies!) Major Tifft, who has visited with us before, is looking forward to a beautiful day and delivering all of the letters to his fellow Marines.

I am hard at work planning North's next Family Night. This one will be for 3rd and 4th grade students and their parents. I have scheduled the event for Wednesday, January 12th. Please mark your calendars. I have a few surprises in store!

Remember to pick up your fundraiser merchandise in the gym this Thursday between 2:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

A Busy Week!

I have great news to share! One of our 4th graders who participated in the Juvenile Court Advisory Board's "Stay in School" Poster Contest has earned 1st place honors in all of Mahoning County. Congratulations Lauren! Lauren and family will attend a breakfast ceremony next week where she will be honored. She will be presented with a $150 savings bond. In addition, she will join 4 others who participated in the contest and eat dinner at my house on Friday. With any luck, I can have them work with my own kids and clean the basement!

Please plan on attending Thursday's PTO meeting. It will be held at 9:00 a.m. in Room 102. Have a wonderful week!

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

Family Disney Night!

Last evening's Family Disney Night was a HUGE success. I was thrilled to see so many happy faces. There is a very nice article about the event in today's Vindicator. Be sure to check it out.
There were many individuals who worked together to ensure everyone had a good time. Thank you all very much. You are appreciated. Enjoy the pictures. Look for a link to another Disney photo album soon.

Best of luck to all of our Bulldog teams this weekend! Go DOGS!

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

Just A Few Reminders!

With so many events coming up, I thought I would offer a few reminders to you. Tomorrow is Family Disney Night for our K-2 students and their parents. If you have sent in your reservation form, please plan on arriving around 5:45 p.m. It is going to be a "magical" evening.

ALL Marine thank you letters are due by Monday, November 8th. Please make sure your family's letter is turned in. If you have misplaced the blank page provided, feel free to write your letter on something else. The kind of paper used is not what is important.

Please plan on attending next Thursday's PTO meeting. It will begin at 9:00 a.m. and be held in room 102. I hope to see you there.

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

Election Day!

I'd like to thank Mrs. Carcelli and Mrs. Ellis for taking the time to show their support of the Poland Schools. They volunteered to work the polls today and encouraged voters to support our schools. Mrs. Wilkinson, Mrs. Szolek, Mrs. Phillips and Mrs. Weimer also helped by making hundreds of phone class the past few weeks. Thank you all very much.

Tomorrow is the last day to turn in order forms for Poland North Elementary School t-shirts. If you have misplaced your order form, feel free to stop by the school. Orders will be in before the holidays.

Our PTO fundraiser products will be arriving on November 11th. Information about picking up your order will be going home soon.

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

November!

It's November! The month is filled with special events and activities, so be sure to check out the calendar page. The month will be highlighted by next week's visit from our Marine friends stationed in Johnstown, PA. They plan on arriving at 1:00 p.m. next Wednesday afternoon. I hope you can make it. It's something you do not want to miss.

Please consider signing up to donate blood on Monday, November 8th. It would be greatly appreciated.

Don't forget to get out and vote tomorrow!
The Voki at the top of the page is still not working. I hope it is fixed soon.

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci
