The Weekend Has Arrived!

I hope everyone enjoys the weekend. It is hard to believe that when we return it will be March. If you are heading to the game tonight, get there early and cheer on the Bulldogs. For those heading to YSU tomorrow, enjoy the games. Plan on arriving some time after 12:00 if you want to participate in a variety of activities for the kids.

There is a PTO meeting next Thursday at 6:30 p.m. March is a long and very busy month. It's packed full of programs and activities. Please plan on attending.

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

Another Storm!

Ahhhhh! Another storm is headed our way. In the event our schools close or have a 2 hour delay, be listening to the news and watching this site. I will get information up as soon as possible.

Tomorrow is "Blue and White Day". The basketball game tomorrow night is SOLD OUT! Let's hope our boys take it to the Cardinals. Go Poland!

I should have some new pictures up soon.

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

Assignment Time!

It's time for another assignment! Please encourage your children to participate. I will reward those who do. However, the response to this assignment must be in your child's writing and turned in by 8:30 tomorrow morning. All assignments should include your child's name and room number and be placed in the mailbox outside the office.

I love to be outside. I am sure you do, too. Here is a list of 5 things I like to do. After reading what I like to do, write down 5 things YOU enjoy doing outside.

1. Cut the grass
2. Take the dog for a walk
3. Visit the Poland Woods
4. Go to a baseball game
5. Cook on my grill

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

Take Note!

We may have a ....GULP.....5 day week. Spring Pictures will be taken tomorrow. Please wear your "picture-taking clothes". These can be found in the same drawer as your church clothes which are either in the drawer above or below your play clothes.

As many of you know, Poland will play Canfield Friday night in what should be an excellent basketball game. If you plan on attending, please try to get your tickets as soon as possible. The game is expected to be sold out. Poland fans are asked to wear white to the game.

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

Yummy!

Thanks to our incredible PTO for helping scoop ice cream this afternoon! The ice cream sundaes were a HUGE hit. As always, thank you for your time and efforts.

The American Red Cross will be hosting the "Hero Breakfast" tomorrow morning at 10:00 a.m. In all, 22 representatives of our school's PTO will be attending.

Yesterday all of our families should have received a message from me. One of our phone's new features allows me to contact large numbers of families. To be honest, it is rather fun. DON'T HANG UP ON ME! I have a way of finding out! If you believe that, I'll tell you another one.

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

Drip...Drip...Drip!

The next chapter in Poland North Elementary School's book about our recent weather issues will be entitled, "The Day the Drips Arrived". As you can imagine, the melting snow and ice are creating a few problems within our school. Several of our classrooms now have very peaceful waterfalls providing soothing sounds for our students. I have a feeling that this is the calm before the storm.

Our Yearbook Committee is in need of pictures for this year's yearbook. If you have any pictures of school events, please send them to school in an envelope marked "Yearbook". You can send in a disc or actual photographs.

Today was one of my favorite days of school. When Mrs. Gunn's class makes heart-shaped pizzas, I am a happy man! Look for pictures of her little chefs tomorrow.

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

2 Days in a Row!

Well......I'm exhausted! 2 consecutive days of work are a bit more than I am used to. All kidding aside, we are all getting back into the swing of things. Please be sure you continue to check backpacks and folders for important papers coming home. Within a few days, 3rd and 4th graders will be bringing home information about a wonderful contest sponsored by the Pittsburgh Pirates. Be on the lookout.

Our 4th graders are just about ready to submit their entry to this year's "Disney's Planet Challenge" contest. Regardless of the outcome, our students have learned a lot and have gained a better appreciation for the environment.

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

Volunteer Needed!

Welcome back to school! Let's hope the weather gives us a break this week. I think we could all use it. For the record, we have used 4 snow days. We our permitted to use 5 without having to make up days in the summer. THINK SPRING!

I am in need of a volunteer. As many of you know, our school received a $2,000 grant from the ODE. In order to receive the funds and ultimately host a "Family Health Night", I have to attend a training session in Columbiana County tomorrow night from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Poland North was allocated 2 spots for this training, so I would like to have a parent join me. I know this is very short notice, but February has been a rough month. Please let me know ASAP if you are interested in attending.

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

Another Snow Day!

There will be no school on Thursday, February 11th. However, conferences will still take place. Teachers will be reporting to work beginning at 3:00 p.m. If you are unable to make it for your scheduled conference, please notify the school's office. We will still celebrate Valentine's Day! I know how much our students look forward to this day. At this time, I am leaning toward Friday, February 19th. I'll be sure to let you know. Enjoy the LONG weekend!

In addition, if you are interested in the free YSU Basketball tickets, please give me call. I will be notifying YSU of our total on Friday, February 12th.

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

Breaking News!

I have great news to share! Thanks to the generosity of our students, staff, PTO, families and community, Poland North Elementary School will be granting yet another deserving child his/her wish. Our Radio Disney event was a HUGE success. I'd like to thank everyone who helped make the night so special. Our students' choreographed dance has made its way to YouTube. Type in Poland North and check it out. I will have a link on our site soon and quite a few pictures to share.

The Amazing Ned show was cancelled today. It will be rescheduled soon. I returned all student order forms for yo-yos.

The winter storm headed our way may cause problems tomorrow. Be sure to check local radio and television stations for news about delays/closings. Get those shovels ready.
Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

Just A Reminder!

Free tickets for the two YSU basketball games scheduled on Saturday, February 27th are still available. Ticket requests are due by Wednesday, February 10th. I can receive as many tickets as needed, so check your calendars. If you have misplaced the form that was sent home on January 26th, simple write your name and ticket request on a piece of paper or simple give me a call.

For the record, I want to state that I do apologize to those who do not have passes for tomorrow's Radio Disney event. I have received several phone calls today from parents requesting them. Some of these calls have come from North families. Information about this event first went home the week of October 5th. Another letter explaining how to receive passes went home the week of November 16th. Included in that letter was this paragraph:

"You must stop by the school to pick up your family’s VIP Passes! This will enable me to keep a very accurate record of how many passes I hand out. My goal is to provide you with the opportunity to receive them first, so please stop in soon to get your family taken care of. (Parents must supervise their children during the event.) Beginning Monday, November 30th, I will extend invitations to “North Alumni” who have supported our efforts in the past. On January 5th, I will extend the remaining invitations to our entire community. I will work hard until all the passes are gone."

Another letter went home on January 19th which provided specific details about the event. Information was also included on this site many times and in our school's newsletter.

Thank you,
Mr. Masucci

PTO Meeting!

Don't forget about tomorrow's PTO meeting. It will begin at 9:00 a.m. and take place in Room 102. I hope you can make it.

Despite the cold weather, we are thinking spring! We have received a new cedar planting station, potato planters, heavy-duty gardening tools, a birdbath, seeds, pots and a rain gauge thanks to a grant from the National Gardening Association. Over the past few years, our school has been awarded close to $18,000 in grants. I am hoping for an additional $2,000 soon! I'll keep you posted.

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

Check this Out!

Our friends at the Make-A-Wish Foundation were nice enough to forward me a link that showcases our building's recent efforts. Take a look by clicking here and scrolling about halfway down the page.

A reminder came home about Thursday's PTO Meeting. We have quite a bit to discuss. I hope you can make it. In addition, we'll begin selling raffle tickets for many of the baskets that will be on display Friday evening. Only 3 more days until Radio Disney!

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

A New Month!

February has arrived! We'll be looking forward to a very busy month. Look on our school's calendar for the latest information.

There are no more Radio Disney passes. After speaking to PSHS's Principal and the Poland Township Police Department, occupancy has become a concern. Tickets for North families have been made available since November. Reminders have been sent home. The event has been discussed in great length at PTO meetings, in newsletters and on our website.

Thank you,
Mr. Masucci
