My Mistake!

I accidentally sent home information about the Tooth Fairy contest that was not correct. All entries are due Monday, February 1st! On the paper that came home, I had Monday being January 31st. With the kind of weather we are having right now, I figured I would make the correction and get us 1 day closer to spring. Sorry for any confusion.

Thank you very much for your support of this year's Book Fair. Mrs. Sabrin and her volunteers deserve the credit for its success.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

Limo Lunch!

Thank you for your patience and understanding with today's 2-hour delay. Everything went very well. Most importantly.......our 14 "limo lunchers" had a wonderful time at the Golden Coral. I cannot begin to tell you how well behaved our kids were.

Since today's Book Fair schedule had to be tweaked, I want to let you know that we'll keep it open for a few hours tomorrow morning for anyone who would like to shop. Thanks for your cooperation.

Thank you,
Mr. Masucci

2-Hour Delay!

Our schools are operating under a 2-hour delay this morning. Our school day will begin at 10:20 a.m. The doors will be open at 9:45 a.m. Our limo lunch is still on! Those participating will have one easy day.

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

Thank You PTO!

Today's book fair was a HUGE hit. I'd like to thank all of the moms who volunteered their time today and helped our students shop. I know many of students are looking forward to shopping tomorrow.

Keep your fingers crossed. In a few days, a representative from the Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley will be stooping by to take a look at our courtyard. We are in the running for a $2,000.00 grant to construct a shade structure that will enable our students to work outside, but remain protected from the sun's ultraviolet light. I'll keep you posted!

Thank you,
Mr. Masucci

Oops!

I came home from my son's basketball practice and realized....no blog today! I must be slippin'. Tomorrow kicks off our Scholastic Book Fair. I'd like to thank Mrs. Sabrin and her committee for all of their hard work in advance.

Information about a new contest will be sent home tomorrow. Be on the lookout!

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

Greetings!

I'd like to thank our PTO volunteers for their help setting up this week's book fair. Mrs. Sabrin has done a wonderful job planning this year's event. There are always a lot of great books. More information was sent home today.

Keep your eyes open for news about a contest Cinema South and our school have teamed up for. I hope all of our students take the time to at least enter. It should be a lot of fun.

Thank you,
Mr. Masucci

Enjoy the Weekend!

I hope everyone enjoys the weekend. Before you know it, Monday will be here. Our PTO's Scholastic Book Fair will take place on Wednesday and Thursday. There will be a lot of great books at even better prices. Look for a schedule to come home early next week.

As many of you know, our greenhouse will become a very busy place in the months to come. There are a lot of plans in the works to make this outdoor area even better for our students. I have applied for close to 15 different grants and am hopeful that we'll receive a few of them. One of the ideas is to create "pizza gardens" that would enable our students to grow some of the ingredients needed to make their own pizzas! My Italian grandfathers would be so proud!

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

One Long Day!

From time to time, I have to attend meetings that keep me out of the building. Today happened to be one of those days. Believe me when I tell you that I would have rather been at school.

The warmer weather certainly has been welcomed by our students and staff. However, the weather will get back to normal for this time of year soon. Please continue to make sure your little ones are bundled up each day.

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

Another Short Week!

It will be another 4 day week. Please continue to look for important papers coming home. Be on the lookout for information about our PTO's upcoming Scholastic Book Fair. Another will be headed home some with details about the Radio Disney event.

Enjoy the week. Please continue to encourage your children to write poems for the MiniPage.

A Long Weekend!

It has been a great week! The warmer weather has been nice, too. Don't forget that there will be no school on Monday, January 18th. We have been talking and reading stories about Martin Luther King Jr. This morning I read a short story that touched upon some of the struggles Dr. King faced in his childhood. I had a very attentive group.

Information will head home next week about the upcoming banquet where our PTO will be honored. Tickets for this event will be $12.75 and take place at Antones on Saturday, February 6th from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

Volunteers Needed!

Our Radio Disney event is quickly approaching. I am looking forward to a wonderful evening. The following evening, February 6th, is PSHS's Sweetheart Dance. The dance takes place in the gym, too. Because we will be there Friday night, the PSHS decorating committee will be unable to get their work finished. In a nutshell, I am looking for some parent volunteers who are willing to stay after our party and help decorate for the high school dance. We'll be joined by PSHS's Mrs. Stacy and some of her students. I really do not think it should take too long. If you are able to help, please send in a note. Thanks in advance.

I did receive a call from Radio Disney yesterday.......... and I now have a secret!
Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

Information Superhighway!

I recently received some information regarding our building's website. From December 2008 to December 2009, our site was viewed close to 30,000 times. There were visits from quite a few countries including Brazil, Japan, India, Canada, Australia and Latvia! We are working on making it easier for our teachers to update their pages. Right now the school's security settings make it very difficult to make changes to the site.

Be sure to check the "virtual" Mr. Masucci in the upper right corner of this page for an assignment tonight!

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

A 5 Day Week?

It appears we'll have a 5 day week. I'm not sure who planned this, but I will be taking the matter up with the proper officials.

I'd like to thank those who attended Saturday night's Youngstown Phantom game at the Covelli Center. Between the tickets sold here at school and donations collected at the game, our school walked away with close to $300.00 toward our Make-A-Wish efforts. Thank you! Our limo lunch has been rescheduled for Thursday, January 28th. I'll be sending notes home with the kids who will be participating today or tomorrow.

I mentioned last week that I had good news. Poland North Elementary School has received a $2,000 grant from the Ohio Department of Education. This Team Nutrition Grant will enable our school to host an upcoming evening event geared toward educating students and parents about proper nutrition.

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

Snow Day!

There is no school today. Enjoy the long weekend. It looks like a great day to go sled riding.

Mr. Masucci

Let It Snow!

It looks like the snow is going to be piling up! As a result, I have cancelled tonight's PTO Meeting. I don't want anyone to have to be out tonight. We may not have school tomorrow. Keep your eyes and ears on this site and our local radio and television stations.

I have some more great news about our school. I'll share it with you on Monday. Enjoy what may be a long weekend.

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

Under the Weather!

For someone who is rarely sick, I sure was down for the count today. Today's message is being sent from my couch where I am wrapped in a blanket. I do hope to be back tomorrow.

Technology is great. From home, I am able to make sure everything is going well and also listen to any messages. With that said, hockey tickets are still available. In fact, all of my messages today were regarding ticket requests. I spoke with Ashley from the Mahoning Valley Phantoms about Saturday's game. Tickets will be delivered soon. As soon as I get my hands on them, I will send them home with those who have turned in orders.

Don't forget about tomorrow's PTO Meeting. It will begin at 6:30 p.m. and be held in the library

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

Quarter Day!

Tomorrow is going to be "Quarter Day"! I am encouraging all of our students and staff to bring in at least 1 quarter for our Make-A-Wish jug.

Mahoning Valley Phantom tickets continue to be on sale for Saturday night's game. Tickets cost $7.50 each. $3.00 of each one sold with go toward our wish efforts. Thank you Phantoms!

Be sure to ask your children about today's "Lights, Camera, Action" program. It was outstanding.

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

Welcome Back!

For the first day back, everything went very well! It was nice to see so many smiling faces. It is hard to believe our school year is just about halfway over. Before you know it, it will be baseball season!

Don't forget about ordering your Mahoning Valley Phantom tickets for this Saturday night. I received quite a few orders today. Wednesday will be "Quarter Day!" We have not had one of these days for quite some time. Send in those quarters for our Make-A-Wish efforts. Things are going well! Our Radio Disney event is just about 1 month away.

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci
