The Weekend has Arrived!

Today has been busy! Like all of you, we have worked hard this week. Be sure you ask your children about what is going on in our building. Many of our students are painting flower pots for our upcoming Tailgate Party. Others have been helping our building's recycling efforts.

YSU tickets will be heading home on Wednesday of Thursday of next week. I requested over 260 tickets!

Have a great weekend.

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

Great Job!

Spike has been found! We obviously have some wonderful detectives here at Poland North Elementary School. I am proud to report that 98 students completed last night's "virtual assignment". Over the course of the school year, I try to emphasize to our students that it's the "extra" things we do in life that can often be most rewarding. Many more assignments like this one will take place throughout the course of the year. Some may not include a note home. Keep your eyes and ears on our site and you won't miss out.

Enjoy the pizza!

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

Be on the Lookout!

Spike, our website's mascot, is on the loose! Once again, he is hiding somewhere on our website and I need our students help to find him. He really is a good dog, but just has a hard time staying in one place. If you find Spike, write down his location on a piece of paper. Slip the paper in the mailbox outside my office tomorrow morning. Be sure your entire name is on it. Our youngest students can have a little help writing. However, our older students should do this on their own. Good luck!

I'll be sure to reward those who help me out.

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

Tea Anyone?

Today's Kindergarten Tea went very well. Our youngest students worked very hard over the past few weeks and it showed . As soon as they smiled, the show was over! We had a very easy-to-please crowd. I would like to thank Mrs. Murphy and her committee for helping put this event together. Great job!

There will be a "very important" paper heading home tomorrow. For those willing to do a little extra work, there will be a virtual assignment on our school's website. Be on the lookout!

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

Baskets!

I hope everyone enjoyed the weekend. The weather was just about perfect. Let's hope the weather is on our side for our school's upcoming Tailgate Party at PSHS. PTO will be hosting this special event on Friday, October 2nd. Be on the lookout for a reservation form.

There will be quite a few baskets raffled off at the party. Tickets for them will be sold at lunch beginning tomorrow. Tickets are $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00. One of the baskets contains tickets to this Friday's Indians/White Sox game. These are box seats valued at close to $200.00. The winner of this basket will be announced on Friday, September 25th. Thanks to Mr. Battaglia for donating them.

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

P.S. I am well aware that my beloved Steelers lost yesterday's game.

Check This Out!

I am happy to report that I am out of tickets for tomorrow's Pittsburgh Pirate game. I will be there and am hopeful that I will see lots of familiar faces. In fact, I will be on the RiverWalk, which is behind center field, in the middle of the 4th inning. I'd like to take a few pictures of as many of our students as possible. If you can, meet me there.

A little over a year ago, Mrs. Saculla's class began making a classroom video. Their video was entered in a nationwide contest in the hopes of winning a techological makeover for their classroom. Although they did not win the grand prize, the experience was awesome. I thought it might be nice to give you a chance to check out the video for yourselves. Just click here!

Have a great weekend!

Mr. Masucci

One of Those Days!

When I post the day's blog after 4:00 p.m., you'll know it's been a rough day. Tomorrow is Friday. I think we could all use a few days off. Tomorrow is also going to be "Blue and White" day. Get those Poland Bulldogs shirts ready.

The tickets to Saturday's game in Pittsburgh arrived this afternoon. I'll fill orders tomorrow and send the tickets home with our students. Go BUCS!

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

How Does Your Garden Grow?

Our courtyard has produced quite a few flowers and vegetables this summer. This giant sunflower grew right outside Mrs. Gunn's classroom windows. A few weeks ago it was in full bloom and brightened up the whole courtyard. Now that is has finished blooming, a portion of it has been cut and is making its way to all of our classrooms for further investigation!

There will soon be quite a few pictures posted of this year's harvest. Be sure to check them out. The link will be on the left-hand side of this page.

Don't forget to get those Pirate ticket requests in by Friday, Spetember 18th. Go BUCS!

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

Take Me Out to the Ballgame!

The Pittsburgh Pirates and Poland North Elementary School have developed a wonderful relationship over the years. The fact that the Pirates are not the hottest team in baseball certainly helps. I was contacted today and offered 600 free tickets to Saturday's game with the San Diego Padres. The game will start at 12:35 p.m. If you, your relatives, your neighbors, your gardener or your coworkers would like tickets, please let me know as soon as possible.

Information regarding PTO's Fall Fundraiser was sent home today. Please consider supporting their efforts. The money generated from this goes a long way for our students. Thanks in advance.

Thank you,
Mr. Masucci

We have all made it through the first week of school! Overall, everything has gone well. Thank you for your patience and support. I know it's been a bit difficult keeping track of all the papers coming home. The upcoming week will have a lighter load.

ThankYou!

Today's PTO meeting went exceptionally well. There were over 35 parents who were able to make it. I cannot tell you how fortunate our school is to have this kind of support. Many upcoming events and projects were discussed. In addition, the budget was approved for the year.

Entertainment Books are making their way home today. These are really nice to have and provide a lot of savings to families. If you want to purchase one, feel free. If not, simply return the book to school.

Our PTO fundraiser will begin on Tuesday, September 15th. Please consider supporting it. It will generate the funds needed for many of year's activities and events.

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

2 Down.....178 to Go!

Today was another busy day! Before you know it, our first week of school will be behind us. So far things have gone well. Please be sure to check backpacks for important information. There are many papers that need to be filled out and returned to school. Thanks for your cooperation.

I hope you plan on attending tomorrow's PTO meeting. We'll begin at 9:00 a.m. in Room 102. Hope to see you there.

Your children will be bringing home Entertainment Booklets tomorrow that are loaded with great coupons. If you use only a few pages from the book, it really does pay for itself. The booklets will be sold for $30.00. If you're not interested, simply return the book to school. More information will head home tomorrow.

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

First Day of School!

Today was one of our smoothest first days ever! Our students were anxious to get started and appeared to enjoy the day. The first few days of school are all about establishing rules and routines. Please ask your children about some of our school's rules.

I look forward to a great year. Poland North Elementary School is a special place. It's special because of your children!

Don't forget about our first PTO meeting of the year. It will be held on Thursday, September 10th at 9:00 a.m. in Room 102.

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

Tick...Tock!

By this time tomorrow, I know outfits will be picked out, lunches packed and backpacks loaded up! It's hard to believe school is here!

Enjoy Labor Day with family and friends. Spending time with those you care about most is a great way to end the summer.

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

P.S. Check out the website's calendar for updates! Others will be made very, very soon.

Kindergarten Orientation!

Today's Kindergarten Orientation went very well. Miss Gura and Mrs. Gesacion had an opportunity to meet their students and give them a guided tour of the building. Our new students in grades 1-4 had a chance to stop by, too.

I'd like to thank Mrs. Blasko, Mrs. Kramer and Mrs. Orr for being at school today to help with PTO membership. Many of our new parents took the time to join. Thanks! Our first meeting is Thursday, September 10th at 9:00 a.m.

During the Kindergarten Orientation, I dropped the ball! Mrs. Sabrin, our PTO President, was right in front of me and I forgot to introduce her. Sorry Mrs. Sabrin. I'm sure I'll have a few more chances though before June.

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci
