Hooray!

4th Graders have officially wrapped up their Ohio Achievement Tests. I'll finish packing them up tomorrow and drop them off at our Board of Education offices.

There are a few Entertainment Books left. Early next week a representative of Poland's Food Pantry will be stopping by to pick up the canned goods we have accumulated. You'd be shocked to see just how much we have.

Be sure to check out the "flamingo article" in today's Town Crier. I'm looking forward to seeing it myself.

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

2 Down.....1 To Go!

Our 4th graders will wrap up their testing tomorrow with their Writing Achievement Test. They will be a very happy bunch around this time tomorrow. To tell you the truth, Mrs. Kaschak and Ms. Vasko will be pretty happy themselves.

I'd like to thank those who have purchased our "Relay for Life" bracelets. I have been able to turn in over $100.00 this week alone on behalf of our school. Poland's National City Bank purchased the bracelets for us and are selling them at their branch, too. Plans for the event are coming together nicely. Remember you can still sign up to participate in the actual walk. Poland North's six teams are never filled. Come on out and help fight cancer on July 10th and 11th. Give me a call if you want to learn more.

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

Thunder

I have two types of thunder to talk abut today! The first is linked to our weather. According to our local television stations, rain and potential thunderstorms are moving into our area. Our 3rd and 4th graders look like they'll luck out and get a chance to enjoy recess before the rain clouds roll in. I'd also like to remind everyone about the upcoming Mahoning Valley Thunder game at the Chevrolet Center on Friday, May 8th. Tickets orders have started to come in. Let me know if you have any questions.

We have tomato plants growing by leaps and bounds in the greenhouse. Since so many folks have asked if we have peppers, we decided to give them a try this year. They're lookin' good, too. All students will be planting watermelon and pumpkin seeds in the next few weeks. Plan on setting aside a little space in your backyard for a garden this year. It is a great teaching tool.

Thank you,
Mr. Masucci

What a Day!

It was one of those days when I blinked and it was 2:00! Our 4th Graders got off to a great start today with their Reading Achievement Test. 1 down....2 to go!

Please get your Mahoning Valley Thunder ticket orders in asap. May 8th will be here before you know it. Once that event is over, I'll share some more ticket news with you!

I know it was unseasonably warm today. I received several phone calls from parents wondering if their children could wear shorts to school. According to our Student Handbook, shorts may be worn beginning May 1st. The temperatures are gong to cool off beginning tomorrow. Thank you for your support.

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

New Additions!

Mr. Sofranec and I ventured out to Home Depot today and purchased quite a few items for our courtyard. Thanks to the Midwest Adopt-A-School Garden Award and $1,000 prize, we were able to get several bird feeders, quite a bit of bird seed, a butterfly fixture for one of our many gardens, hundreds of watermelon and pumpkin seeds and lots of soil. I had lots of help getting everything unloaded and installed. Now..............we wait for the birds! Let's hope no flamingos show up.

Enjoy the pictures.

Horray!

The roar you may have heard earlier in the day came from our 3rd grade students and teachers. The 3rd graders are now finished with their Ohio Achievement Tests! These are rough days to be a kid. I am thrilled they are over. As for our 4th graders, they will be finished in a week.

There is a great article in today's Town Crier about our Spring Program. Be sure to check it out. Have a wonderful night.

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

P.S. Look for Spike! He seems to be missing again.

A Friendly Face!

It has been very nice to have Mrs. Gunn back in our building. As many of you know, she had both knees replaced earlier in the year. In her absence, Mrs. Mayle took over in Room 111. She did an amazing job and will be deeply missed by our students and staff. Mrs. Gunn worked very hard to return this school year and is looking forward to winding up the year with her students. Welcome back Mrs. Gunn!

Be sure to take a look at the flier that came home about the Poland Schools Foundation for Educational Excellence's annual Smart Walk. Families are being encouraged to participate this year. The event will take place this Sunday. If you have any questions, please feel free to let me know.

You may have noticed that the "virtual Mr. Masucci" is not working at the moment. The blue hair doesn't do much to make me look any younger. We'll get in fixed as soon as we can.

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

Congratulations to our building's winners and all who participated.

Spring Break!

Spring Break has arrived! I hope everyone enjoys the days off and returns to school ready to wind up our year. If you are heading out of town, have a wonderful time and stay safe. My son and I are heading to New York to see a few baseball games. My girls have their own plans involving nail polish, glitter and shopping.

Be sure to take a look at the calendar page to see when our 3rd and 4th graders will be taking their Achievement Tests. In addition, check out the pictures of some of our most recent events. Links are to the left.

Have a Happy Easter!

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

Thank you......Thank you very much!

Congratulations to our kindergarten and 3rd Grade students for an amazing performance last night. This year's Spring Program was one of our absolute bests. It's not every day that Elvis makes an appearance. He was great, but it was our students who stole the show. I'd like to thank and congratulate our staff, too. As usual, they went above and beyond and helped make the night a memorable one for their students.

Don't forget about the Entertainment Books I have. Any student who brings in 4 canned goods will receive a book. The coupons inside are good until November. All of the food collected will be donated to a local charity.

I hear there are flamingos on the move. Watch out!

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

A Busy Day!

Today was a very busy day. Between our dress rehearsal this morning and the visit from the Mahoning Valley Thunder this afternoon, time flew by. Be sure to check out the pictures of the Thunder visit!

WKBN stopped by this morning and filmed a little bit of our Spring Program. Be sure to watch the news tonight to catch a glimpse.

After a day like today, I can tell you one thing....................I need a vacation.

2 more days of school!

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

Brrrrr! .............On April 6th?

This weather is driving me just about crazy. How our the New York Yankees supposed to open up their season today in these cold temperatures? Looks like the white stuff might reappear, too.

Tomorrow's Spring Program will be one for the ages! Our students and staff have worked very hard to put together an outstanding program. There will be a dress rehearsal tomorrow morning to iron out a few wrinkles. The actual performance will take place at 6:00 p.m. Bring a few extra dollars for PTO's basket raffles.

In addition to the spring program, a few of the Mahoning Valley Thunder football players will be stopping by. The original plan was to have them join us on our monthly walk. Looks like we're on to plan B. They will be here to get everyone excited about the upcoming "Poland North Elementary Night" at the Chevrolet Center. Fliers will be coming home tomorrow with more details. Keep Friday, May 8th open on your calendars.

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

This is for the Birds!

Believe it or not, but a flock of flamingos has been sighted in Poland, Ohio! Twelve beautiful birds were photographed at Mr. Sofranec's house late last night. Mr. Sofranec was unaware of their arrival. From what I hear, they were caught early this morning. However, they escaped and were last seen flying south. Be on the lookout!

Be sure to check out the new pictures in our greenhouse album. Today was another busy day for our young gardeners.
Have a great weekend.

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

PTO News!

Our PTO held its annual meeting this morning. The American Cancer Society's Bridgett Savage visited and shared information about this summer's Relay for Life. "Team North" is off to an amazing start! Be sure to check out our school's team page.

Next year's officers were elected. Tammy Sabrin will be President. Heather Sandy will serve as Vice-President. Diane Kluchar will remain Treasurer. Melissa Kellgren will serve as Recording Secretary and Callie Kopp will be Corresponding Secretary. Thank you all. Our current officers need to be thanked, too. Their leadership and devotion to the students of Poland North Elementary is admirable.

It's Report Card Day tomorrow!

Mr. Masucci

Mrs. O'Kane will be holding a Staff Appreciation Meeting tomorrow evening at the Poland Library. It will begin at 6:00 p.m. If you are unable to make it but areinterested in helping out, give Mrs. O'Kane a call.
