Warm Weather!

While it may not be here to stay, it sure feels good to have some warm weather. During recess, all of our students were able to get outside and take in some fresh air. Please continue to check the forecast each day and be sure your children are coming to school dressed for the weather.

We were also able to hold a fire drill this afternoon. I am proud to report that everyone made it out of the building safely in under 1 minute.

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

Greenhouse!

We've been hard at work planting flowers. Within a week, things will be ready to "grow".....I mean go.......out in the greenhouse. (C'mon...that's good!) Recycled water bottles are being used as planters and working out very well. It not only teaches our students even more about the importance of recycling, but will provide opportunities to see the root development of the plants. If you have empty water bottles, please send them to school in a bag. We'll certainly use them.

Thank you,
Mr. Masucci

Think Spring!

Thanks to our friends at Zellers Greenhouse in Hartville, Ohio our students will begin working in the greenhouse next week. Zellers donates flowers and soil to our school every year. Five years ago the owner called after finding out about the greenhouse and said,"As long as kids are getting their hands dirty, you come here and get what you need. No questions asked!"

Today's trip was a productive one. In addition to soil, our school was given geraniums, impatiens, petunias, begonias and snapdragons. We'll have some pictures of our gardeners up soon.
Thank you,
Mr. Masucci

Be sure your name is on your paper before putting it in the mailbox outside the office. I'll check the mailbox shortly after 8:30 a.m. Have fun!

Keep sending those empty aluminum cans to school. It is appreciated.

Today's News

Today's weather may not have been perfect, but at least it didn't snow. There were still a lot of children out sick today. Let's hope everyone can return to school soon.

I hope the information regarding the Green Team's Placemat Contest made it's way into the hands of adults yesterday. This annual contest for grades 1-4 is a great one. All poster ideas are due back to school by Monday, February 23rd or Friday, February 27th depending what grade your child is in.

Have a great day. There will be a "secret assignment" on tomorrow's VOKI. Shhhhhhh! Let's see how many complete it.

Thank you,
Mr. Masucci

A Busy Day!

It was just one of those days! Before I knew it, I looked up to find it was almost 2:00 o'clock. That means our little darlings were busy and well behaved today. There were close to 40 kids absent today and quite a few who were sent home because of illness. Let's hope everyone gets healthy.

Be sure to check out the information coming home today about the Green Team's Placemat Contest. Our students can and do win contests like this one. Unfortunately, kindergartners are not able to participate.

Thank you,
Mr. Masucci

Windy Weather!

The windy weather may not have come as a surprise, but it certainly complicated our day. Our 2-hour delay went very smoothly. I'd like to thank everyone for their cooperation.

Today was a busy day. It was our 100th day of school. PTO provided ice cream sundaes as their valentine treats. There were Valentine's Day parties in all of the rooms, too. Needless to say, our students were excited. Good luck during the 4 day weekend!

Because of the delay, today's PTO meeting had to be cancelled. It will not be rescheduled. We'll make up for it in March. Please be sure to mark your calendars. Our next meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. on March 5th.

Happy Valentine's Day!
Mr. Masucci

PTO Meeting!

Please try to attend tomorrow's PTO meeting. It will be held at 9:00 a.m. in Room 102. The PTO will be very busy in the upcoming weeks and months. It is hard to believe that February is just about half way over.
3rd and 4th grade students will soon be bringing home a great deal of information about the OAT (Ohio Achievement Tests). Please begin taking a look at the links located in the upper left-hand corner of this page. The websites have proven to be helpful as our students prepare for these tests.
Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

Crazy George was a HUGE hit! Our students really enjoyed the show and were actively involved. Thank you PTO for this very special treat. Be sure to ask your children about their extra special afternoon. These two walked away with their own basketballs.

Don't forget about Thursday's PTO meeting. I hope you are able to attend. We'll begin at 9:00 a.m.

Thank you,
Mr. Masucci

Nick Eason Visits North!

Wow!!.......We had ourselves one exciting day! Nick Eason of the Pittsburgh Steelers spent several hours visiting with our students and staff. He began his visit in the gym where he was greeted by a sea of black and gold. He talked about his NFL career, but spent as much time stressing the importance of a getting a good education, working hard and respecting others. Each homeroom was encouraged to think of three good questions to ask our guest. As the morning progressed, he made his way through each and every classroom, posed for countless pictures, signed autographs for our students and staff and answered a lot of good questions. In case you are wondering what his favorite food is, I'll share........"Just about anything on my plate."

Nick also signed a Super Bowl XLIII football and pennant for "the students of Poland North Elementary". Look for a great story in tomorrow's Vindicator and an upcoming one in the Town Crier. There may also be a story on tonight's news courtesy of WKBN! I'd like to thank Nick for a great visit, Mr. Jim Battaglia for helping make the visit happen and our local media for the wonderful coverage!

Thank you,
Mr. Masucci

Our PTO's Book Fair was a huge success. I'd like to thank Mrs. Sabrin, Mrs. Clemente and their committee for their help. There were a lot of wonderful books available.

Book Fair!

Mrs. Sabrin and her committee have done an amazing job setting up and organizing this year's book fair. There are some wonderful books available at very reasonable prices. I shared a few of the books this morning in the gym. Ask your children about them! Rooms 109, 107, 110, 104, 202 and 105 will all visit tomorrow. The remaining rooms will have the opportunity to shop on Thursday.

Thank you,
Mr. Masucci

Spring?

Looks like our friendly groundhog to the east is telling us spring is not in our immediate future! With another storm rumored to be heading our way, it looks like winter is here to stay. February is always a busy month. PTO's book fair will begin on Wednesday, February 4th. Information regarding the book fair was sent home a few weeks ago. Call if you have any questions.

I'd like to thank Mike Tomlin, Santonio Holmes, James Harrison, Ben Roethlisberger and the Cardinal's offensive line for a wonderful Super Bowl. Go Steelers!

Thank you,
Mr. Masucci
