Here's the Scoop!

Another short week has come to an end. Although we just dug ourselves out from the snow, it looks like another storm may be headed our way. If you are heading to the YSU Basketball games of Saturday, please be careful. I hope to attend, too. Let's hope the Penguins can chalk up a victory.

There is a very nice article in this week's Town Crier about our school's new physical fitness equipment. Our school continues to be very fortunate to have such outstanding coverage.

Enjoy the weekend! Lets hope for 2 things:

1. That Mr. Groundhog doesn't see his shadow on Monday.
2. That the Steelers win the Super Bowl!

Thanks!

Our day ran relatively smoothly despite the modified schedule. I'd like to thank our students, teachers, staff, bus drivers and parents for their patience and cooperation.

Tomorrow is "Super Bowl Day". Students and staff are encouraged to wear their favorite team shirts and/or colors. Let's hope for lots of black and gold! Go Steelers!

YSU basketball tickets are heading home with those who submitted orders. Hope to see you on Saturday. Go Penguins.

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

2 HOUR DELAY

It's Thursday, January 29th. All of the Poland Schools will be operating under a 2 hour delay. This means school will begin 2 hours later. In our case, school will begin at 10:20 a.m. School buses will be making their runs, but will be 2 hours behind their regular schedules.

Lunch will still be served at its regular time. Dismissal will be the same as well.

Please do not plan on dropping students off earlier than 9:45 a.m.

Thank you,
Mr. Masucci

Snow Day!

Wow! That was a lot of snow. I had to shovel my driveway 5 times. As of right now, we will be going to school tomorrow. However, keep your eyes and ears on our site and the news. I think the roads are the issue right now.

My kids enjoyed their day off. Today's snow was perfect for packin'. We decided to make an igloo. It was a lot of fun, but Dad ended up making most of the bricks.

Mr. Masucci

No SCHOOL!

It's Wednesday, January 28th. There is no school today. Enjoy the day off.

Weather Report!

Tonight's forecast looks like a white one! Our area is expecting quite a bit of snow overnight. Check our site, local television stations and radio stations for news about school closings tomorrow morning. If.........and I do mean if......school is closed tomorrow, I'll post the news before 6:00 a.m.

4th grade's "Family Game Night" is still on. If the weather gets bad, we can always wrap things up a bit early. Let the games begin! See you at 6:30 p.m.

Thank you,
Mr. Masucci

A Busy Week!

It's going to be a very busy week. Tonight is the Poland Library's "Pajama Jam". I hope to see all of students attend and have a great time. I'll begin reading at 7:00 p.m.

Tomorrow is 4th Grade's "Family Game Night"! Thanks to our friends at Circuit City, there will be plenty to smile about. Families will be showcasing their musical ability by playing RockBand 2. I couldn't keep the staff away today! I think they are going to take their act on the road.

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

It's FRIDAY!

The weekend has arrived! Thank goodness. Don't forget to sign and return your child's report card. If you like camping, be sure to take a close look at the information inside the envelope. There are a lot of great deals to some of Ohio's finest parks.

Let's hope our Poland Bulldogs play well tonight. They will be taking on a very good Canfield team. If you plan on going, be sure to get their early. It will be very crowded. GO DOGS!

Monday is the Poland Library's Pajama Jam. I hope to see all of our students there and in their most colorful pajamas! I'll begin reading at 7:00 p.m. There will be a meeting at the library for all 4th grade parents regarding the 4th grade Recognition Dinner, too. Hope to see you there.

Thank you,
Mr. Masucci

Let's Eat!

My family was treated to a very special dinner tonight. Three of our students who had won honors and participated in a contest earlier in the year were invited over for spaghetti! It was a lot of fun and we managed to share a lot of laughs. The Handel's ice cream really hit the spot!

Don't forget......tomorrow is blue and white day! Our Bulldogs will be taking on the Canfield Cardinals tomorrow night at PSHS. GO DOGS!

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

Exercise!

Thanks to our friends at National City Bank all of the students will be enjoying some new equipment when they attend their physical education classes. Because of the parents and staff members who visited the bank for a free financial review session, our school received $1,500.00 to enhance our building's walking/exercise program.

Mr. Wesolowsky was thrilled and extremely appreciative. We all are and will make certain the equipment is put to good use. Look for pictures to be posted soon.

Thank you,
Mr. Masucci

Thank You PTO!

Thanks to the generosity of our school's PTO, a 32" flat-screen television, an Under Armour basket filled with golf shirts, hats and other items and a basket filled with light bulbs, electronic devices and a DVD player were given to Poland Rotary's Mr. Todd Bury. Over the course of the last few years, Poland Rotary has been instrumental in helping our school reach our "Make-A-Wish" goals. As a way of showing our gratitude, Poland North Elementary School's PTO donated the items to Rotary. They will be auctioned off at this weekend's "Chili Open". Poland Rotary will use all of event's proceeds for their charitable work. It was a very nice way to say "thank you" to this wonderful group and very characteristic of our PTO! Great job.

Thank you,
Mr. Masucci

Inauguration Day!

This is a very special day in the history of the United States of America. Our students learned quite a bit about the Presidency and seemed genuinely excited about the day's events. The school's televisions were tuned in most of the day.

Don't forget about next Monday's Pajama Jam at the Poland Library. Don't forget to wear your pajamas.

Thank you,
Mr. Masucci

A SUPER Day!

Our extra-long weekend has come to an end. The weather seems to have eased up enough for us to get back to work. Tomorrow's historic event will be shown during school. President Obama's Inauguration has excited our country and our students will have the chance to watch it as it unfolds.

There was something else we needed to discuss......hmm.....!? What was it? School....no.....Snow day......no.....Ah yes.................Here We Go Steelers...Here We go! Here We Go Steelers...Here We Go!

Thanks,
Principal Polamalu

Thank You!

I have said many times that I am a very lucky man to work with such a wonderful staff. Once again, they have managed to make my day brighter. They presented me with a very special gift this afternoon for being one of the eleven "Heroes of the Mahoning Valley". This is an award that Poland North Elementary School's students, staff, PTO and parents deserve more than me. The gift is something I have wanted for many years. I am extremely grateful.

Thank you staff! You are the best.

More Snow!

It looks like more snow is heading our way! We are expecting some frigid temperatures, too. With all this cold weather, it hasn't been too hard to think about warm, tropical places. That's exactly what we have been doing as we prepare for Family Technology Night.

Take a look at our "ocean bubble" that will be used during this evening event. As usual, our staff has come together to create this one-of-a-kind activity for our students. I try to update the pictures each day. The link is over to the left.

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

Snow?

Looks like quite a bit of snow is heading our way. Good thing my beloved Pittsburgh Steelers play well in the snow! I think Sunday afternoon will involve my recliner, pizza and Terrible Towel!

Enjoy the weekend. Whenever school is cancelled, I jump on the computer and post the news. In the event you wake up Monday and wonder, you can always check this site.
My son and I are looking forward to tomorrow's hockey game. I hope to see you there. Go Phantoms!

Thursday, January 8, 2009

Brrrr!

It sure was cold today! Looks like the next few days may be even colder. Please be sure your children are dressed for the weather. It would also be a great idea to put your child's name on everything.

Thank you to those who attended today's PTO meeting. North is lucky to have such a devoted group. If you were not able to make it today, plan on attending in February.

Ms. Johnson has been displaying fantastic art work over the course of the school year. Pictures like this one really do brighten up the hallway! Great job Ms. Johnson.

Thank you,
Mr. Masucci

P.S. The website should be updated today! Thanks for being patient.

Rainy Day

Looks like to today's weather is going to be a bit wet! I know my own kids were a bit disappointed when they woke up today. They were looking for day off already!

Please try to attend tomorrow's PTO Meeting. There are a lot of upcoming events and plans will be duscussed. We'll also start to discuss next year's fundraiser. The meeting will begin at 9:00 a.m.

I'd like to thank those who purchased tickets to the Phantom game. Since we received $3.50 for each ticket sold, our school earned over $100.00. Thank you!

A Fresh Start!

Welcome back to school! If you listen carefully enough, you may be able to hear all of the happy parents who have kicked up their heels and poured themselves another cup of coffee today. It shouldn't take too long to get back into our routine. Be sure to check your child's backpack and homework journals tonight.

All requests for hockey tickets were due today. Last minute requests will be accepted tomorrow. K-2 parents will need to be on the lookout tomorrow for information regarding Family Technology Night. Please keep Thursday, February 5th open on your calendars.

Our website should be updated today. We'll have a few surprises, too.

Thank you,
Mr. Masucci
