Thank you,
Mr. Masucci

P.S. If you happen to have an extra vacuum cleaner that you would like to get rid of, please let me know. Mr. Sofranec and his crew are in need of a few extras.

Thank You!

Our Tailgate Party was a HUGE success! This year's event has to be one of Poland North Elementary School's all-time best. Thank you to those who were able to attend. The turnout was unbelievable. I would also like to thank our staff for taking the time to be there. We truly do have a family at Poland North Elementary School. One that we should all be proud of. Congratulations to those who walked away with some prizes! Look for pictures of the party to be posted soon.

Enjoy the weekend.

Mr. Masucci

I will be bringing with me quite a few extra tickets for tomorrow's YSU game. If you would like more tickets for family or friends, please do not hesitate to ask! I will be happy to give them away.

Check Things Out!

Our teachers are in the process of updating their web pages. Many of them have started their own blogs, too! We have a few kinks to work out, but are exceptionally proud of this site. Be sure to check things out!

Thank you Mrs. Gawdyda! You are appreciated!

Thanks,
Mr. Masucci

PTO News!

Mrs. Ferrick, Mrs. Kellgren and I met this afternoon to discuss a wonderful way to raise money for our building. Much more information will be heading home in a few days. For now, just clip and collect Box Tops Coupons off of many of the products you already have in your homes. For a complete list of participating products, just click! This is an easy way to earn money for our school. For every 10 box tops, our school will earn a dollar. There are plans to make this a contest and reward the homeroom and student who turn in the most.

Thanks Mrs. Ferrick and Mrs. Kellgren. Great idea!

Thank you,
Mr. Masucci

A Nice Day!

The weather today was absolutely perfect! As a result, we took our first walk of the year. Students and staff walked close to 2 miles this afternoon without having to leave the school's property. As the year goes on, we'll continue to encourage all students to lead healthy, active lifestyles. If you have the time tonight, go for a walk with your family!

Our Tailgate party is just 3 days away!

Thank you,
Mr. Masucci

Kindergarten Tea

Today's Kindergarten Tea was a huge success. Miss Gura and Miss Shurilla did a wonderful job preparing their students. I would also like to thank Mrs. Sabrin and her committee for a job well done. It was nice to see so many parents and grandparents able to attend. Because of you, our school is a better place. Be sure to check out the pictures!

In conjunction with Poland's Wellness Policy and our own building's program, all students and staff will be walking tomorrow afternoon. Be sure your children wear comfortable shoes. This will mark the third year of this program. It is something our students enjoy and a great way to encourage everyone to lead healthy, active lifestyles.

Thank you,
Mr. Masucci

The Weekend!

It's been a short week! We are still accepting fundraiser forms. Please consider selling a few items this weekend. This PTO fundraiser provides the funds for so many of our school's special events. Your support is both needed and appreciated.

Our Tailgate Party will be held on Friday, September 26th. There will be a variety of baskets filled with different items that will be raffled off. The Webkinz Basket generated a lot of buzz today! Look for information coming home next week about purchasing tickets.

Have a great weekend.

The test results will be sent home in November. If you have any questions, please feel free to call.

Great News!

There is a very nice article in today's newspaper about students in our school. Over the years, we have developed a wonderful working relationship with the Vindicator. Be sure to take a look at it.

Students in Grades K-3 attended a safety program this morning. The Officer Phil Program has visited our school for many years. The safety messages are clear and entertaining for our students. Please talk about the visit with your children tonight. There will be pictures posted soon.

Thank you,
Mr. Masucci

Windy Weather!

Last night's windy weather certainly caused a lot of damage in our community. Our school did not have power until a little after 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As it stands right now, there will be school tomorrow, September 16th. With so many families still without telephone service, help to spread the word if you can. If something happens overnight that causes school to be canceled again tomorrow, please be tuned in to our local television and radio stations.

We'll be sure to reschedule the Kindergarten Tea as soon as possible.

Thank you,
Mr. Masucci

Be on the Lookout!

Many of our students brought home a green paper yesterday with information about Giant Eagle's "Apples for Students" program. A letter should have been attached providing you with much more information. I forget about the letter. I do apologize. Within the next few days, the letter will be sent home. If you shop at Giant Eagle, please consider participating in the program. It has the potential to really help our school.

Our Kindergarten Tea will be held on Monday at 1:00 p.m. We are looking forward to having our kindergarten students perform. The event should be over shortly before 2:00 p.m., so Kindergarten students can be dismissed a few minutes early if their parents would like to take them home. If interested, please send a note to school informing our staff that you will be taking your child home.

Thank you,
Mr. Masucci

Mark Your Calendars!

Family Nights have become wonderful traditions at Poland North Elementary School. Over the past few years, students and families have participated in Family Math Night, Family Science Night and Family Literacy Night just to name a few. The responses to these evening events have been extremely positive.

This year we will be hosting.........insert drumroll......."Family Technology Night"! On Thursday, November 6th, 3rd and 4th grade students and parents will be invited back to school. On Thursday, February 5th, we'll host a similar evening for Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade students and parents.

During both events, students and parents will travel to different stations setup throughout the building. The activities at these stations will all be related to technology. These are fun, educational evenings where you are actively engaged. Please plan on attending!

Thank you,
Mr. Masucci

Patriot Day!

Tomorrow will mark the 7 year anniversary of the September 11th attacks on America. During my morning announcements, I will not go into details about that tragic day. However, I will explain the reason why our school's American flag will be displayed at half-staff. Please take a few moments to talk about this historic day with your children.

In recognition of Patriot Day, all students are encouraged to wear red, white and blue tomorrow!

Thank you,
Mr. Masucci

Today's News

We held our first "Fire Drill" of the year yesterday. For the very first one, I was very pleased. Our students and staff made their way out of the building in a little over 1 minute. Each month, we will look to improve our time. Please take a few moments at home to review your family's safety plan.

Information went home several days ago about YSU Family Fun Day. Each student in our building is entitled to 4 free YSU tickets to the September 27th game. All ticket requests must be returned to school by Wednesday, September 17th. Hope to see you there.

Thank you,
Mr. Masucci

Parent Orientation !

Our annual Parent Orientation will be held tomorrow evening at 6:00 p.m. Orientation is for parents/guardians only. Please make plans to have a family member or friend watch your child. Orientation will provide you with the opportunity to meet your child’s teacher and learn about classroom procedures, curriculum, and discipline/homework policies. Please keep in mind that this will not be the time for personal conferences. It would be too difficult for our teachers to provide a clear picture of a student’s performance after only a few days of school. Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held in November.

Thank you,
Mr. Masucci

It's FRIDAY!

I don't know about all of you, but I sure could use a vacation!

All kidding aside, it has been a great first week of school! I am very proud of our students. They have been extremely well behaved and excited to be here. Of course, there are always exceptions. As I walked by one of our kindergarten classrooms this morning at 9:15 a.m., I overheard one little guy say, "Is it time for the bus yet?"

Monday is Picture Day! Be sure to send in the envelope with your child's information in it. Our photographers will be here early.

Have a great weekend!

Mr. Masucci

Thank You PTO!

Our first PTO Meeting of the year went very well. I would like to thank our officers for a job well done! The proposed PTO budget was approved and information shared about upcoming events. More importantly, the meeting was attended by close to 40 parents. Thank you. Having so many attend, contribute, volunteer, smile and laugh reminds me just how lucky I am to be here!

While it may be a bit unfair to the devoted mothers who attended, I want to thank Mr. Quimby and Mr. Smith for coming. It is great to see fathers take such active roles.

Our next meeting will be held on Thursday, October 2nd at 6:30 p.m. in our school's library. I hope to see you there.

Thank you,
Mr. Masucci

Another Busy Day!

We survived our first "pizza day" of the year! Wednesdays are always a bit different in the cafeteria since so many students buy lunch. (Different would mean crazy in this sentence!) I would like to thank our PTO volunteers for helping out. You are appreciated!

We'll hold our first PTO Meeting of the year tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. Please plan on attending.

Here's a reminder about PTO's fundraiser:
Please do not use the David's Cookie Dough order form. All orders are to be placed on the Great Western order form.

Thank you,
Mr. Masucci

Day 1

Our first day of school went exceptionally well. There were a few bumps along the way, but nothing we couldn't handle. Our daily routine is quite different from previous years. The addition of all-day kindergarten has had a huge impact. In addition, our overall enrollment is significantly higher than it has been in the past. As of today, there are 226 students enrolled.

As I told our students this morning, today and this week will be devoted to learning and understanding the rules of the building. Please take time to review them at home. I will be keeping a watchful eye on our cafeteria and playground. I will also be spending a lot of time walking around the building and making myself as visible as possible.

There are a lot of important papers coming home today. Be sure to take a look at the white packet. It includes all of the information regarding our PTO's fundraiser. Please support it any way you can.

Thank you,
Mr. Masucci
