Welcome Back!

Is it Friday yet? It was relatively quite this morning when I entered the gym to greet our students. There were not too many smiling faces. I wonder if the parents were the ones with the smiles. Our afternoon kindergartners had a little bounce in their steps when they arrived, but they had a couple extra hours of sleep!

It is always nice to come back to great news! The Board of Mahoning County Commissioners, through the recommendation of the Mahoning County Solid Waste Management District Policy Committee, has approved our school's request for a Mini-Grant totaling $900.00. The funds will be used to further enhance our school's greenhouse and enable our students to participate in more outdoor learning activities.

Thank you,
Mr. Masucci

Back to School!

With our Spring Break over, it is back to business at Poland North Elementary School. There won't be too many smiling faces in the morning.

Be sure you get back into a routine as quickly as possible. Check your child's backpack for homework and important information each day. Keep reading each evening with your child, too.

Thank you,
Mr. Masucci

Spring Break!

On behalf of my entire family, I would like to thank everyone for their sympathetic words, cards, thoughts and prayers. Your kindness has been deeply appreciated. Although it may be for only one day, it is nice to be back to work!

There will be a Magic Show this afternoon for all students. It will prove to be a very nice way to end our day and begin our Spring Break.

Enjoy the upcoming holiday and days off. Classes resume on Monday, March 31st.

Thank you,
Mr. Masucci

Almost There!

I have asked all students to bring in 1 coin tomorrow. We are within reach of our $6,000 goal for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Please encourage your child to bring in a penny, nickel, dime or quarter. I cannot tell you how proud I am of our students, families, staff, PTO and community for pulling together. Our students are looking forward to finding out more about the child whose wish they will be able to grant! You won't find lessons like this in our textbooks. Thank you so much for supporting this project!

A Special Visit!

Wow! Our visit from the basketball team was wonderful. Our kids were very excited to see the players and extremely generous with their high fives and warm wishes. The entire team and coaching staff were congratulated for a wonderful season, but.........It's not over yet! Don't forget that you can watch the game on channel 68 beginning at 2:00 p.m. Pictured are members of this year's team that attended Poland North Elementary School!

Go Bulldogs!

Thank you,
Mr. Masucci

Tune In!

FYI.......The Poland Bulldogs state basketball semi-finals game will be televised at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 13th on Channel 68.

A Busy Day!

Mr. Sofranec and I am heading to Rootstown this morning to pick up several hundred flowers that will find their way into the school's greenhouse. Beginning tomorrow, our students will be hard at work transplanting the flowers into larger pots. Couldn't we all use a few signs of spring?

A brief letter will come home today regarding excused absences for those students wishing to attend Thursday's basketball game in Columbus. A note from parents must be turned in by tomorrow if your child will be attending the game.

Tonight is the last scheduled work session for the Kids Are Authors contest. All entries must be postmarked by Saturday, March 15th. If you have any questions, please let me know.

I am hoping to get back into a routine before Spring Break arrives. As many of you know, my father is very ill. He has spent the past few days at his home surrounded by family and friends. Many of you have kept us in your thoughts and prayers. On behalf of my entire family, I would like to thank you for that.

Thank you,
Mr. Masucci

Columbus Bound!

Students attending Thursday's PSHS basketball game in Columbus will be excused from school if a written note is provided to me by Wednesday afternoon. The team plans on stopping by North sometime after 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday. We wish them the best! Go Bulldogs!

Time to Plant!

If all goes according to plan, I will be traveling to Zeller's Greenhouse in Rootstown, Ohio on Friday to pick up several hundred "plugs". Plugs are small plants that are typically about an inch tall. The very nice folks at Zeller's donate the plugs to our school each year and love the fact that our students are "getting their hands dirty". The plants will make our greenhouse come to life in a hurry!

In addition, a portion of the money from our recent "Cans for Cash" prize will be used to build small, circular beds in the courtyard. Our students will plant a variety of gardens in them when the weather warms up!

Feel free to stop by in a few weeks to check everything out!

Thank you,
Mr. Masucci

Take a Look!

I was reminded at tonight's PTO Meeting to provide a little information about a potential 2 hour delay. In the event of this type of delay, morning kindergarten will be canceled. However, school will be open. Our day will begin at 10:20 rather than 8:20 and bus routes will be adjusted. Lunch schedules, afternoon kindergarten and dismissal will remain the same.

Thank you,
Mr. Masucci

Warm Weather!

It will be a very busy week. Don't let the warm weather fool you. Please be sure your children come to school dressed to go outside for recess. We plan to get them out each day.

I hope to see you at this evening's PTO Meeting. It will begin at 6:30 p.m. Please try to make it. Your input is appreciated. Election Day is tomorrow! Please head out and vote. Tom McCabe from the Board of Elections assured me that this is the last time our school will have voting. They plan on moving to another location.

Keep sending in those cans! Our last Cash for Cans pick-up will be Tuesday, March 11th. As you already know, every can makes a difference.

Thank you,
Mr. Masucci
