FYI!

I'd like to thank everyone who supported our fundraiser. It seemed to go exceptionally well. Your support is deeply appreciated.

I am quite certain that we are only a few days away from reaching our $6,000 goal for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. This is absolutely wonderful! Our students are looking forward to finding out the recipient of a well deserved wish. I will be certain to keep you posted.

This is typically a very difficult time of year. Our students sense that Spring is in the air and are ready to say good-bye to the long, cold winter. Consequently, some students begin to misbehave and temporarily "forget" our school's rules. I intend to be much more visible next week and will "remind" those who do so of the consequences. Please be sure to review what type of behavior is expected at school. Your support is essential.

Don't forget about Monday's PTO Meeting.

Thank you,
Mr. Masucci

Just A Reminder!

There will be a PTO meeting on Monday, March 3rd. This is our last evening meeting of the year to try to accommodate those of you who work during the day. The meeting will be held in the library and will begin at 6:30 p.m. There is quite a bit on the agenda. I hope that you are able to attend.

Thank you,
Mr. Masucci

Special Visit!

Our students will be treated to a special event tomorrow afternoon. The Morris Brothers, a group touring from California, will present an anti-bullying program entitled Bully Busters. Please try to take a few moments tomorrow evening to ask your child about the program. This is one of the many special events funded by Poland North's PTO. Thank you.

There will be another work session tomorrow evening for those participating in Scholastic's Kids Are Authors Contest. Our gym will be open from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. I hope to see you there.

Our Spring Pictures have been rescheduled for Monday, March 10th.

Thank you,
Mr. Masucci

Oh Boy!

Here we go again! The weather prevented us from going to school today! Let's hope we'll be back tomorrow. The weather looks a bit rough for this evening. Keep your fingers crossed.

If we have school on Wednesday, information about the Green Team's "Placemat Contest" will be coming home. Our students have done exceptionally well in this one and I hope we are able to submit a lot of entries.

Thank you,
Mr. Masucci

Greetings!

There was a very nice article in today's Vindicator about our recent national prize here at Poland North Elementary School. Be sure to check it out.

I have been missing quite a bit of school recently. My father is very ill and I have been spending a lot of time with him. Although I may not be at school, I check in periodically to learn how each day is going. Cell phones certainly do have their advantages! It gives me a great bit of comfort to know our school runs so smoothly without me around. Our students and staff are incredible.

Thank you,
Mr. Masucci

Great Day!

Our special program went very well this morning! Mayor Sicafuse, Peg Flynn and representatives from the "Cans for Cash" contest were all on hand as our school was awarded a $5,000 check and plaque for winning first place honors in the national contest. The building's achievement is to be shared with everyone who helped collect cans. Our students should be very proud of this accomplishment. Look for articles in the Vindicator and Town Crier soon!

The Bulldogs begin tournament play this evening at Boardman. The game begins at 6:00 p.m. Go Poland!

Thank you,
Mr. Masucci

Take A Look!

There will be a work session this evening from 5:0o p.m. to 7:00 p.m. for those participating in the Scholastic Book Contest. Do not feel obligated to attend if it is easier for your group to work somewhere else. I scheduled three work sessions at school to simply provide opportuntities for everyone to get together. I'll have copies of previous winning entries on hand. I hope to be able to attend and answer any questions that you may have. The link above may also prove to be helpful.

Tomorrow is going to be a busy day! To support our tournament-bound Bulldog Basketball Team, we will have another "Blue and White Day". In addition, it will be "Quarter Day". We are very, very close to reaching our goal! I'll be sure to keep you posted. There will also be a short program tomorrow morning about the importance of recycling. At this time, our school will be presented with a $5,000.00 check for winning the "Cans for Cash" contest! Mayor Sicafuse, Councilman Dunnavant, Chief Beatty and the Green Team's Peg Flynn all plan on being here. Look for an upcoming article in the Vindicator and Town Crier.

Thank you,
Mr. Masucci

Here's the Scoop!

Since we missed "Penny Day" because of a snow day, I wanted to be sure to remind everyone about "Quarter Day". In honor of George Washington's birthday, students and staff are encouraged to bring in quarters on Friday, February 22nd. We are very close to reaching our $6,000.00 goal. Boardman Rotary sent a $500.00 check in yesterday and brought us 1 step closer to making a child's wish come true.

I have been out of the building for a few days, but hope to return soon.

Thank you,
Mr. Masucci

Happy Valentine's Day

I do not know about all of you, but I could certainly use a few days off!

Valentine's Day is always an exciting one at school. From the moment our students walked in, they were ready to share their valentines with friends and enjoy their classroom parties.

Thank you to our wonderful PTO for providing today's treat! It was nice to see so many volunteers. Our students enjoyed the ice cream and apprecite your efforts.

Have a nice long weekend!

Thank you,
Mr. Masucci

Take A Look!

Information came home earlier in the week about a contest. As you know, students are always encouraged to participate. Words like initiative, desire and committment are often used in an attempt to motivate. The response to the Kids Are Authors contest has been great, especially in the 4th grade. However, it is open to all students in our building and I would love to see our younger students participate, too. Check out the contest's link to find out more. While the information may seem like a lot to absorb, I have broken it down to its simplest form. It really is not that bad. If you have any questions, please feel free to let me know. I'll help any way that I can.

Thank you,
Mr. Masucci

Thank you for supporting our PTO's Book Fair. It was a huge success!

Tomorrow will be "Blue and White Day". The Bulldogs will be battling the Canfield Cardinals at PSHS. Let's hope our boys continue their winning ways.

PTO's Book Fair is going well. K-2 students have visited today. 3rd and 4th graders will do so tomorrow. We have been fortunate to have so many PTO volunteers helping. As always, thank you for your time. Don't forget to stop by tonight between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. to check things out. All are welcome.

Information is coming home today with all students about an exciting contest! Please take some time to read over the letter and encourage your children to participate.

Tuesday's News

We had plans of walking this afternoon. Those plans were washed away! While the rain may have stopped, it is just too wet to take our monthly trip around the school's property. To date, we have walked close to 10 miles!

Our undefeated Poland Bulldogs will take on East Liverpool tonight at PSHS. After tonight, the boys only have 1 more home game. That game will be against Canfield on February 8th and tickets will be hard to come by. Try to make it tonight's game.

Our Book Fair is ready to go! Students will begin visiting it tomorrow. Plan on stopping by with your family tomorrow evening between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.

Thank you,
Mr. Masucci

A Busy Week!

Thank you to everyone who was able to make it to today's PTO Meeting. Our 2nd Grade students, Mrs. Gunn and Mrs. Saculla did a wonderful job entertaining parents.

The Slate of Officers for 2008-2009 was presented along with an opportunity to sign-up for a committee. We discussed future programs, all-day kindergarten, our Make-A-Wish efforts and other topics. Look for the minutes of the meeting to be posted soon.

PTO's Book Fair is ready to go! Please try to stop by Wednesday between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.. There are a lot of great books and very reasonable prices. Thanks to Marilyn Blasko and her committee for all their help.

Thank you,
Mr. Masucci

We'll have our monthly PTO meeting on Monday at 9:00 a.m. I am looking forward to having our 2nd graders participate. I hope to see you there.

Mr. Masucci
